Many of you have a workshop or garage, and you know very well how important it is to correctly organize a place to store various small things - cogs, bolts, nuts, screws, and others.
In this article, the author of the Crazy Workshop YouTube channel will tell you how he made a very unusual mechanized organizer for such a small thing.
This homemade product is very simple to manufacture, and can be repeated even with a minimum of tools.
Materials
- sheet plywood
- Wooden round timber, aluminum tube
- Jars with a screw cap
- M8 furniture nut
- Hairpin M8, confirmations
- Nuts, washers, M8 bolts
- Office glue
- Spray paint
- PVA glue
- Wood screws with a press washer
- Impregnation for wood
- Sandpaper.
Instruments, used by the author.
— Band-saw
— Screwdriver, wood drill, confirmation drill
— A circular saw
- Angle clamp, file
— Electric jigsaw
- Spanners
- Vise, hacksaw, hammer, scissors, marker.
Manufacturing process.
First of all, the master proceeds to manufacture the gears of the mechanism. To do this, he printed several templates, cut them out, and glued them to a thick sheet of plywood.
First, he separated the blanks, and cut them in a circle on a band saw.
After that, the teeth themselves are formed, and processed by a file.
In the central segments that need to be removed, the author drilled holes for the entrance of the jigsaw blade, and cut them out according to the marking.
A hole for a furniture nut is drilled in the center of each gear.
M8 mustache furniture nuts are hammered into place.
Both sides of the gears are ground with an orbital sander.
The gears are laid out on a plywood sheet in one line, the marking of the centers is transferred to its surface, and holes for the axes are drilled in it.
Now the master made a test assembly of the mechanism, and removed the excess parts of the side panels.
Having fixed a hairpin in a vice, he cuts it a little more than the width of the future case.
For the handle, the master drilled a hole in a wooden round log, and glued an aluminum tube with an internal diameter of 8 mm into it.
After a little reflection on the appearance, the author removes another segment of the side walls.
For the drums on which the containers will be held, he made four pentagonal covers and drilled holes for nuts in their center.
Using two corner clamps, he fixes the covers with a side panel. Then he drills a special drill with a countersink hole, and twists the confirmations into them. You can read about the manufacture of such corner clamps in the next article.
He also aligns the second wall, and tightens with confirmations.
After grinding the surfaces of the covers, the lock nuts are hammered into their centers.
Five strips of sheet plywood, the edges of which need to be cut at an angle of 18 degrees, will serve as a housing for the drum. After that, all the details are glued together, and pulled together with stationery gum.
As a result, two such drums are obtained, their surfaces and faces must be sanded with sandpaper.
All surfaces of the body and drums are treated with oil.
Now you can screw the lids from the cans to the drums. The author uses self-tapping screws with press washers.
So, all the structural elements are ready, you can proceed to its assembly.
The master painted the gears with spray paint and fixes the central one on the body.
Then both drums are installed, and the studs are screwed into them. Then put both remaining gears and tighten with nuts.
Everything is ready, you can attach the organizer to the wall.
Of course, it is better to use plastic cans, they will make less noise when turning the drums, and there will be no risk of breaking them. However, the author decided to use glass.
Now, with one handle, you can rotate two drums at once, and select the required capacity. For the convenience of the lid, it is better to sign with a marker, and stick stickers on the surface of the cans. Of course, if you wish, you can change both the dimensions of the organizer case, the number of containers, and add a few more drums.
The master will really have something to surprise his guests.
By the way, such a device can simultaneously prepare as many as 50 cocktails!
I thank the author for the simple idea of an unusual design for the workshop organizer!
All good mood, good luck, and interesting ideas!
