I’m constantly mastering something, this is my job. But it is also a hobby, a desire to do something in my blood.
This is my first master class, so do not be strict, please.
I showed the whole process in the video at the bottom of the page.
In my youth I often did such things. 25 years passed, and again I decided to make a small boat. This is such a fun project!
I started by packing cork from one carpentry shop and thin linden plywood for small parts, which should also be durable. I did not use any sketches and drawings for this model, since I understand the galleons quite well, so this will not be a reliable historical reproduction. On some thin parts, where I should not have allowed breaks when sanding or sawing, I applied quick-drying glue to the flat surface of the sheet, put the second sheet on top of the first under a 90-degree turn so that the fibers cross and support each other.
I began to cut the hull form with an x-acto knife, made it from two pieces of linden glued together. Then I polished the body, giving more precise bends. The deck is carved deep to give the nose and tail a raised shape.
It’s easier for me to show how I did it than to explain in words. But if you have any questions, I will answer in the comments.
