Garden table with mosaic from an old coil

Do not throw away the old cable reel, but turn it into a garden mosaic table individually according to your design. If you need an unusual easy to move furniture for home or cottages, you can find unnecessary coils in large household and construction stores, and it can come out very cheaply and even for free. If you want to put a table on a paved area in the garden or on a large terrace, you can install 3-4 furniture wheels to make it easier for you to move them.

- old reel for hose or cable
- pieces of a mosaic of several colors, you can use an old faience tile to break it into pieces
- grout
- rag
- putty knife
- sandpaper

Instructions for manufacture:

Step 1. Sand all surfaces of the drum and wipe it with a damp cloth to remove dirt. If you wish, you can paint the desired color on all surfaces except the top panel, on which you will form a mosaic.

Step 2 Put the whole tile in a bag, tie it up and smash it with a rubber mallet to break the tile into pieces. If you want to be more precise, break each tile separately. Do not try to form the same shapes, as different shapes, sizes and colors increase interest in the overall mosaic on the table. This method is suitable for tiles of the same thickness to form a homogeneous mosaic, otherwise you must put some of their parts on the mortar for alignment.

Step 3 Put a little putty on the surface of the coil with a spatula. Treat it in small pieces to prevent the mixture from drying out when forming a mosaic. Lay several pieces of the mosaic onto the mixture to form a flat plane. Distribute them so that there is a small distance between them, but not too much so that it does not turn into a huge gap between them. Remove excess mixture where it is squeezed beyond the edges of the tiles, and use it for the other part of the work.

Step 4 Gradually move along the surface of the table and form pieces of mosaic. Before drying the mixture, wipe all the colored pieces that have been laid with a damp cloth so that the solution does not dry on them. Shape the edges with a spatula to form the side surfaces of the countertop.

Step 5 Wipe the surface with a damp sponge to wipe the mosaic and wait until the solution dries for at least 24 hours. You can make several garden chairs on the same principle to put them next to the table using smaller drums. You can decorate them with mosaics or install a foam seat, which can be upholstered with durable fabric to create upholstered furniture.
