Pentagonal folding tube

This project was inspired by a similar “turret” telescope, which was octagonal. I immediately thought about how to simplify this project without violating the functionality of the “telescope”.

The drawing turned out to be simple, the same drawing is repeated there. The difference is how the paper is folded (mirrored) - at first the figure bends, then it bends and vice versa, between the structure and the frame.

Step 1: Preparation

Print the drawing, which is attached below in a pdf file and bring it to the desired format - cut the black lines of the borders on the sides. Follow the instructions exactly.




- Blue lines - the figure bends (mounds are obtained);
- Red lines - the figure bends (hollows are obtained).

Step 2:

The bonding part is marked on the right side of the drawing with a dotted line. Glue and form a pre-folded “turret”.



Step 3:

Make folding frames on the sides.



Step 4:

To fold this mechanical structure, start from the outside and move inward (towards the middle).

You need to fold the "telescope" on both sides at the same time and gradually reach the center of the structure. After that, fold and bend the paper in the opposite direction.

Step 5: Result

The result is a pipe that can be decomposed and used as a telescopic antenna for 7 times.
