Drywall Floor

Today, the presence of a good drywall floor in an apartment or house serves as a kind of indicator of a comfortable and modernly-developed home and, of course, is the pride of every owner. Drywall is such an effective and easy-to-use material that today it is used in almost all construction works. Moreover, the acid-base composition of gypsum is almost identical to the PH-indicators of human skin, because of this, when working with drywall, no additional protective equipment is required.

As for the floor drywall or abbreviated GVL, when laying on the floor it requires a perfectly flat surface.

As a rule, before laying this material, the floor is first leveled, but even with a perfectly executed screed, professionals still recommend using a dry bedding. There are several options: perlite, expanded clay or sand. I would like to note that perlite is an ideal material in the presented series. Due to fine grinding, this mixture lays on the floor smoothly and tightly. The only drawback is its price, but here you can save a little by diluting perlite with sand in a ratio of three to one.

The laying of drywall on the floor should begin with waterproofing, that is, it is necessary to put a plastic film on the floor base, which is recommended to be folded in two, or even three layers. Thus, you protect the dry mix and the drywall itself from exposure to moisture penetrating from under the floor. It is also worth considering that the film is sold in rolls and its width is always not enough for large rooms. That is why the installation of polyethylene should be overlapped, which should be at least twenty centimeters. It should be noted that when laying drywall on a wooden base, the best option would be to replace the film, for example, with roofing material. And only now, after you have correctly installed waterproofing, you need to proceed to the second stage, namely the laying of dry mixes.

It is also worth remembering that GVL is a porous material, which means it absorbs moisture well and can slightly increase in size (swell).

Therefore, you should leave 10 mm gaps between the wall and drywall, which can be laid using waterproofing tape. After you fill in a special mixture and level it to the level, then proceed to laying sheets of drywall itself, which is better to start from the door of the room, since you can’t walk on the bedding.

When laying drywall, carefully glue every edge of the subsequent panel with glue, since this material is bonded with this method. Gypsum boards are easily cut, planed and sawn, and the low weight of the material allows for installation without resorting to outside help.
