I am sure that in many areas of the Non-Black Earth Region, the Urals and other regions, soil drainage increases the yield of crops grown. This is especially noticeable in rainy summers and autumn on fruit plantings.
In olden times, clay pottery was used mainly, which, of course, often fought. The peasants used its shards as drainage. Keeping this in mind, I always lay broken shards with a layer of 15-20 cm when planting trees and shrubs. I noticed that trees planted in such holes grow faster and gain strength.
If the drainage was not laid in a timely manner, then around the tree with a garden drill I make pits with a depth of up to 80 cm and stuff them with various shards, but not with gravel, which is quickly silted, with a layer of about 30 cm. I put humus and mineral fertilizers in these pits. In dry weather, I also water trees through pits. The drainage system also saves the trees, especially apricot, cherries, felt cherries from the root of the neck.
