This material is devoted to a review of the slingshot video. The slingshot is not entirely simple, because it is designed for arrows, and also because it has a significantly increased working draft, compared with conventional slingshots.
Let's start by watching the author’s footage.
So we need:
- paper;
- marker or pencil;
- ruler;
- scissors;
- plywood sheet;
- jigsaw;
- drill;
- grinding nozzle;
- washer;
- threaded rod;
- nuts;
- metal wheels;
- bolts;
- wire;
- harness.
Let's start with the drawing to be done on a piece of paper. An example can be seen in the photo that we bring below.
After that, we cut out the drawing to get a form for transferring the picture.
At this step, you need to transfer the drawing to the plywood sheet. Using a jigsaw, carefully cut out the drawing. We’ll add from us: although the author of the idea uses a conventional jigsaw, you can use the electronic one if you wish, which will greatly simplify the work.
So, we get a slingshot blank. We take a drill, put on it a grinding nozzle and carefully grind the resulting wooden workpiece.
We give the recess a more round shape.
Next, we take the puck and with it we determine the middle at the edge of the slingshot. Mark the center with a pencil or pen.
In the marked places we drill holes with a thin drill.
After that, we take a drill thicker and drill the holes made.
Next, we take a stud with a thread, which, according to the author, can be purchased on the market or in specialized stores for $ 0.5. We screw the hairpin into the hole to check whether it fits well into it.
Now we need to bend the hairpin at right angles. To do this, we light a gas stove or burner and at the bend point we heat the hairpin to red.
Clamp the hairpin in a vice and bend.
You need to get two blanks, as shown in the figure below.
We thread the blanks into the slingshot holes and fix on both sides with nuts.
Now we need metal wheels, which according to the author can be purchased at a flea market.
We put the bolts on the wheels and fix them on the back of the nuts with a wire.
Check that the wheels rotate freely.
Next, we take a tape tourniquet, which can be purchased at almost any pharmacy. We fix it on the horns of the slingshot that we made from the hairpin.
At the other ends of the tourniquet we tie a nylon rope.
After that, we take the wire and bend it so that a depression forms in the middle, which will be a kind of guide for the arrows.
In the end, we explain why it is necessary to use long horns made of steel studs. In classic and well-known slingshots, the harnesses are attached directly to the edges of the slingshot itself. Accordingly, the extension length of the bundles is small, which reduces the power of the flight object. In our case, harnesses are attached much further than the slingshot itself. Accordingly, the extension length of the bundles increases, which allows to increase the power several times.
