Making a cup holder in a car

The configurations of most cars do not include a cup holder. Therefore, you have to buy them separately, if during the journey the car owner likes to drink coffee. While a cup of coffee or tea cools, the driver’s hands are free - this is the main plus of having a cup holder in the car. Its presence is very relevant if children often ride with their parents in a car. By the way, if you are tempted to put a cup holder in your autothen the author of this homemade invites you to do it yourself!

We will need:
- plastic connectors for the outlet (diameter 80 mm);
- sandpaper;
- An annular drill of a suitable diameter;
- connectors of PVC pipes (diameter 80 mm, they must narrow downwards);
- silicone sealant with glue;
- scissors and cardboard;
- nippers;
- optional: thin marker.

Step 1

So, the first thing the author suggests is to modify the gearbox console. Just remove it, with the help of a core drill on a convenient working surface, cut out two connectors for cup holders.

Only before drilling is it necessary to mark the locations of holes! Use a cardboard template for this. Leave a small gap between the holes - 1.5 centimeters will be enough. You will also make templates yourself without problems: attach the pipe to the cardboard, circle it with a marker around the outer circle - you're done!

Step 2

Now insert the pipes into the holes, fit the connectors under them. The author advises to polish the edges of the slices - so the work will be much more accurate.

Use a pair of wire cutters to cut the side rails from the socket outlets. We do not need them for this homemade product. Insert the remaining plastic circle on the back of the pipe. Parts are fastened with ordinary superglue. Squeeze the parts together, wait - the glue should set. Trim the parts of the resulting base if they protrude beyond the pipe. Be sure to sand the edges of the slices.

Tip: for trimming, you can use a file in addition to the nippers.

Step 4

Lubricate the cup holders with silicone sealant from the bottom; you don’t want them to knock and distract you from the road.Seal also the clearances between the gearbox console and the cup holders. Now the cup holders in the car will be stable.

Step 5
Wipe off excess sealant immediately. The place of transition after drying is again treated with sandpaper, then the cup holders will look aesthetically pleasing.

Step 6
Wipe the gearbox console with a damp cloth; do the same with cup holders to remove work debris.

Everything, cup holders in a car do it yourself ready! Everything is extremely simple, try and you can improve your car!
