Bird and tree feeder

Bird and tree feeder

From uncomplicated materials at hand do it yourself You can make an original bird feeder. For example, a feeder in the form of a lamp from a can and pieces of wood.

Step 1: Tools and Materials

Instruments:
• Saw. Both a conventional hand saw and a band saw, and even a chainsaw, will do. The main thing is that she saws well.
• Drill for drilling holes for fixing and seeds
• Drill (wide). Necessary for drilling wider holes.
• Drill (smaller) for drilling holes in a metal ring. You can also use a hammer drill.
• Feather drill. Drill small pits for seeds.
• Glue gun
• Nippers
• pliers

Materials:
• Log. Size approximately 9 cm in diameter. From any breed of wood.
• Jug with a wide neck and a metal ring
• Screws. You will need 4 small brass screws to secure the metal ring to the base.
• Sandpaper.
• Waterproof varnish. It is necessary to cover a varnish only on a tree. So the tree will last longer. You can just paint it.
• Mineral oil.
• Rope. A thick tourniquet, clothesline and even a chain will do.
• Wire or hook. It will take to hang up a finished feeding trough.
• Paper. It will take one sheet of paper to make a template through which holes will be drilled on the tree.
• Pencil. Mark on paper and tree. You can use a marker, but it’s harder to erase.

Step 2: Pruning a Tree

Cutting wood can be dangerous if you do not follow the rules. Hold the piece of wood you are cutting firmly. A hand saw, of course, is less dangerous, but it will take more time to work with it.

Use a vise to hold the tree firmly on the machine. But the necessary piece can be wide and just can not fit in the clip. Cut the tree into two pieces, one piece for the bottom, the other for the roof. You can make the roof pointed, it will look prettier, but it will be more difficult to do. A flat roof also works.

Step 3: Rope Hole Pattern

Take a sheet of paper and circle a piece of wood on which holes will be drilled. Mark these places with a pencil. Cut a circle out of paper and fold it four times, and cut out the marked spots. It is necessary to ensure that they are at the same level from each other. Make sure that the cut out stencil fits the tree on which it will stand. Attach the paper and mark the holes on the tree.

Step 4: Seed Cups

Place the metal can lid on the tree and circle it. Find something round and make four circles along the edges of the large one that you got from the metal cover. These will be cups for seeds.

Step 5: drill holes

Cut out the holes for the cups and drill small holes.

Step 6: Protecting the Tree from Sun Rays and Rain

Apply mineral oil to the surface where the seed cups are located. The remaining places on the tree varnish.

Step 7: Attach the Ring to the Base

Place the ring in the center of the base. Attach it carefully and gently to the tree with four screws or screws. The ring should not stagger. After attaching, check how firmly it is screwed. Insert the jar and screw it to the ring.

Step 8: Attach the rope and hook

Pull the rope from the bottom of the wooden base and tie it into large knots so that the rope does not come out. Thread the rope into both pieces of wood. Upwind the rope with wire. You can leave two large loops and hang a feeder on them, or you can attach a hook.

Birds love clean feeders. Always keep your trough clean. If the cups are full of grains, clean them. Remember to cover the tree with mineral oil every year to protect it from moisture.
