The sling is probably the only weapons, which has almost never been modified in its thousand-year history. A sling was adopted by the most powerful armies in the world: Persia, Greece, Rome ... In the Old Testament, David defeated the fierce giant Goliath, whom no one wanted to fight, it was a sling. Many underestimate this weapon because of its apparent simplicity and erroneous judgment that the effectiveness of a bow and crossbow is much higher.
Firstly, if the bow were really more effective than the slings, instead of the slingers they would use archers, but instead they were able to completely displace the slingers only with the advent of firearms.
Secondly, let's calculate a bit: a projectile released from a sling accelerates a speed of about 30 m / s, the projectile’s weight is usually 200 to 300 grams, based on this, the energy transmitted by the projectile is - MC ^ 2 = 0.3 kg * 30 m / s * 30 m / s = 270 joules, that is, the striking power of a sling exceeds the power of a hunting cartridge (240 J). The only minus of the sling - in order to use it, you need to go through a lot of training, but the modern realities are such that if you get a sling against the robbers on the street, they won’t take you seriously ... Until the first hit ... And then run, robbers will not approach you anymore, but they can call the police and accuse you of premeditated murder. Seriously, sling is a very dangerous weapon, so if you know how to use it, if possible, do not use it on the street and even more so do not throw shells at your head.
Sling making
You will need the following tools:
1. Leather or any other dense material
2. A sheet of paper in a box and a pencil
3. Scissors
4. Puncher
5. Rope or cord
Operating procedure:
For the manufacture of a bed sling you need leather, other dense materials may also be suitable.
Draw a bed template on a piece of paper. First draw a contour, and then bend the sheet to make paper cutting easier.
If you cut paper in a line, then spend a lot of time and effort. Since our workpiece is symmetrical, it can be folded and cut off the edges, as shown in the figure.
If you did everything correctly, you should end up with the following template.
Now it's time to move on to cutting the bed. To do this, attach the template to the skin, and circle it with a pencil so that your sketch is visible.
The terrible gun is almost ready, there are a few final touches left. Carefully cut the bed of slings at the office of the material.
Cutting the correct rounded holes will not be easy, unless of course you are a tailor or dresser. Here you will be helped by a hole punch, which you can purchase in a regular stationery store.
Now you need a rope about two meters long. The rope should not be stretched, otherwise the range and effectiveness of the throw will decrease.
We tie the rope to the bed of the sling, stand up to its full height, lowering the bed so that it touches the floor. Cut the rope in the middle. We tie a knot to one end of the rope so that it fits freely onto the hand.
In some versions of the manufacture of the sling, the knot is tied so that the end of the rope is not worn on the hand, but on the finger. I do not recommend this option, since there is a chance that when you throw the finger will fly out of the joint.
Use of slings
Making a sling is not so difficult, it is another thing to learn how to use it. There are two types of throws from a sling:
- with horizontal untwisting
- with vertical
With horizontal untwisting, it is easier to hit the target, but vertical untwisting increases the distance of your throw. Therefore, it is advisable to master both techniques.
