Ice hooks are a must for any fisherman when fishing in the winter. It is thanks to them that a person can save his life by falling through the ice. It will not be difficult to make ice hooks yourself; we will consider in more detail how this happens.
Necessary tools and materials:
- matches or a lighter;
- wooden stick;
- hacksaw, knife (you can grab scissors);
- file;
- drill with drills;
- sandpaper;
- roulette;
- vise;
- hammer;
- two nails of 11 mm each;
- a cord of nylon 150 cm long;
Manufacturing process
Step 1. Create Hook Handles
To create pens, you need to saw off two pieces of a suitable length from an wooden stick, on average 10-12 cm. It is most convenient to hold the stick in a vice and cut it off with a saw with small teeth, while there will be fewer chips.
Step 2. Create bevels
The bevels on the handles can be made using a file, the easiest way is to use an electric grinder. At the final stage, the bevels are processed using sandpaper.
Step 3. Drill holes
In both handles you need to drill two holes on one side. In this case, one hole should already be another. Subsequently, a nail will be driven into a narrower hole, so the diameter of the drill must be selected depending on the diameter of the nail.
The second hole is necessary so that the hooks are conveniently and safely assembled.
For convenience and safety, drill holes in the handles with a vise, which the author for some reason neglected.
Step 4. Insert the nails
Nails are driven into narrower holes that have been drilled in handles. This process must be approached with caution, because if the hole is too narrow, the handle can easily crack. If it so happens that the nail freely enters the hole, then it can be fixed with glue, insoluble in water.
Then the nails are cut with a hacksaw to the required length and sharpened for better penetration into the ice.
Step 4. Insert the cord
At the other ends of the handle, it is necessary to drill through holes for threading the cord. Stretching the cord through both handles, at its two ends you need to tie strong knots.So that the cord does not fluff, its ends must be scorched with a lighter or matches.
