A coffee table is an integral part of the living room interior. This item of furniture can become a real highlight that can decorate any home. Today, both classic and original designer tables are relevant, which combine familiar functionality and unusual style.
Natural wood in the interior is becoming increasingly popular, and a coffee table made of this material can be called ultramodern.
Materials to be used:
9 wooden blocks measuring 138 * 5 * 10 cm,
12 wooden blocks measuring 21 * 5 * 10 cm,
2 wooden blocks 34 * 5 * 10 cm in size,
table legs: 2 pieces of “hairpin” or 4 pieces of wood (as for a bench),
5 cm screws - up to 30 pieces,
varnish for wood, sandpaper.
Tools for work:
saw,
drill,
screwdriver or screwdriver,
measuring tool (carpenter's ruler),
brush.
Important note: if desired, the bars can be fastened together with glue, without the use of any special construction tools. In this case, all of the above tools (except for the brush and the ruler) can be deleted from the list, the screws will not be needed either. But glue for wood in this case should be very high quality.
1. Build start
You need to select five bars measuring 138 * 5 * 10 cm, which will serve as the top row - the countertop. It is these bars that will be in sight, so you need to choose the most accurate, without visible flaws, traces of saw cuts, without cracks, bumps and pits. The bars will fit snugly together, but the edge of the table will be uneven, in the form of a ladder, the bars will advance 5 centimeters forward through one.
To fasten the boards forming the countertop, use short transverse bars that will be covered by the second row of long bars. Long beams will be attached around the edges, the same as above. Carefully monitor the location of the bars from the end so as not to disrupt the checkerboard pattern. The distance at which the 34-centimeter diameters are attached to the edge of the table is determined by short bars of 21 * 5 * 10 cm with a shift of 5 cm relative to each other. These short bars will create the illusion of long boards of the second layer.
In the long bars located at the edges of the table, measure the grooves for the entry of the transverse short bars. Cut them out, especially not worrying about the quality of the cut, as this part of the structure will be inside and hidden from the eyes.However, make sure that all parts of the designer fit snugly against each other.
Drill holes in the beams for fastening the bars.
2. Folding design
Now that all the parts of our "constructor" are prepared, you can begin to assemble and fasten the parts.
Carefully observe the distance between the blocks of the middle layer, so as not to disrupt the checkerboard pattern.
Having laid the top layer of the long beams forming the countertop, proceed to fasten the legs of the table. In this case, the author homemade I used ready-made legs - “pins”, which are attached very simply. If you wish, you can use short whetstones that fit perfectly into the design of this table, but take more time and effort.
3. The final stage - painting
Our table is almost ready and it remains only to make a few finishing touches. Painting is needed to protect the surface, and to give decorative properties.
Before painting, the tree must be sanded to smoothness, eliminating all burrs and villi. To do this, use a grinder or a set of sandpaper.
After sanding, treat the wooden surfaces with a special primer that impregnates the wood fibers and holds the material together. The waterproof film that forms on the surface will perfectly protect the wood from corrosion and will reduce the consumption of paint materials.
Make your choice of varnish or paint at your discretion. You can cover the table with colorless varnish, leaving it almost in kind, you can give a darker tone, simulating more valuable wood species, or you can completely hide the texture, covering with a layer of any paint on the tree. The main thing is that the table will be protected from accidentally spilled coffee, and you - from splinter.
