Often it happens that in good and comfortable headphones with high-quality sound, manufacturers save on a cheap case that can quickly break down. In this article, the author decided to replace the casing with beech wood material, which is simply processed. But for this job you need to have woodworking skills and tools.
Materials and tools:
- Glasses for working with wood and a dust mask
- Sandpaper of several types
- Drills on 8, 2 and 1 mm
- Jigsaw and little saw
- Grinding drum
- Nail file
- Diamond drill
- A small piece of wood and bone
- Super glue
You need to draw a drawing for future headphones, you can do this in a graphical editor. The drawing is superimposed on the tree, glued, and sawed out with a jigsaw. A 1 mm drill marks the center on the back of the template.
A large hole is drilled with an 8 mm drill. The hole for the cable with a 2 mm drill. For proper operation, the holes are made strictly perpendicular. The internal parts are drilled very carefully so that the case is not damaged.
Further, the case is polished from all sides. For its final completion, a regular nail file is used. For better work, it is recommended to take a small file.
When the body is prepared, work with the bone begins. Bone can be taken with ordinary beef, having previously degreased it, before work it is necessary to soak it in lighter fluid. The bone will become softer and look like plastic. Now it’s easy to work with, and you can cut the desired size of the stub. The dimensions are removed and the bone is cut into small pieces, after cutting it is processed with a jigsaw or sandpaper. The bone model is glued with superglue to the screw, the screw itself is inserted into the drill to grind as shown in the figure. It is important not to forget to make a recess for the plug so that it could enter the case. The top is polished and the edges are beveled and smooth.
The body is grinded on a mini-grinding machine, which can be made from a drill using different nozzles.Work should take place with glasses, as small pieces of bone and wood fly in different directions. And in no case should you rush, removing, layer by layer, all the irregularities are polished.
In the final part of creating headphones, you first need to disassemble the old ones, and then they are already invested in a new wooden case. Small parts are glued with superglue. The inside of the wiring must be removed with extreme care so as not to damage it. In appearance, the headphones are very beautiful and original. The sound due to such a case is even better. The work is jewelry and very painstaking, but the result speaks for itself.
