Frameless furniture recently become very popular. This is not surprising, since such furniture - sofas, armchairs, ottomans - is very comfortable. It is able to adapt to the size and shape of a person, which is really very convenient.
Such upholstered furniture can be done with your own hands, without unnecessary costs. The main thing is to determine the final form of the product and the filler.
1. Preparation
Before you begin, decide how many covers you will have. The main cover will be inside, filler will be poured into it. It must be sewn from durable fabric, because this part will be the main burden. Top covers, preferably 2 removable covers, are sewn from upholstery fabric, which can be easily cleaned and washed. In this case, the author sewed a chair bag from one cover of Oxford 600 fabric. This fabric has a strong dense weave, rubberized back, which perfectly protects the filler from moisture and allows you to clean the fabric without washing.
Preparation of materials for work:
Sewing machine with needles No. 100,
fabric for sewing a case - 140 * 250 cm,
strong reinforced threads 70LL,
spiral fastener - lightning 30 cm long,
tailor pins
special sewing scissors,
chalk for marking on fabric,
filler - foam balls (expanded polystyrene) - 3 kg,
plastic bottle,
Scotch.
2. Cutting the fabric
Make a paper pattern. Cut the paper parts, attach and pin with pins to the fabric. Cut the fabric into parts. Remember to step back 2 centimeters from each edge for seam allowance.
3. Sewing a cover
Part of the part forming the back, connect the bottom of the part with pins and sew to the seam. There will be a lock at the bottom, leave a gap of 30 cm. Wash all parts first by hand, well spreading the fabric to avoid the formation of unnecessary wrinkles. Hand-catch lightning too. After stitching the seams, all temporary seams will need to be torn apart. Assemble the front part and the back part, stab with pins, sweep. When all the details are sewn, sew all the seams on a typewriter, work the edges with an overlock or machine zigzag seam.
Spread the temporary seams.
After that, grind the front part.
This seam does not need additional fixing. Turn out a cover. Sew a fold of 0.7 cm high around the entire perimeter of the front part. You will get a piping that will fix the seam and visually give the product stiffness.
4. Chair filling
The last stage is filling the covers with foam balls.
It is very convenient to do this with a plastic bottle with a previously cut neck and bottom. Attach the foam bag to the narrow part of the bottle with tape, insert it into the case, and fasten it as tightly as possible with a zipper. Repeat the procedure several times, do not fill the chair for approximately 2/3 of the volume.
A few tips:
if you want to make a chair bag with a double cover, then choose a zipper for the outer cover of sufficient length so that through the hole you can get the inner filled cover,
buy balls with a small margin, because during operation the chair will shrink by about 25%,
you can add a layer of synthetic winterizer under the outer cover, so your chair will be better in keeping its shape, and not lose its splendor,
Do not place the seat next to the battery and avoid excessive humidity, as this may damage it.
The chair is ready, you can comfortably sit in it and relax. This place will surely be the most beloved in your home!
