Nowadays, to afford a new good door made of wood is not cheap pleasure. At the moment, the door market is dominated by empty ones inside, and only seemingly wooden goods from the outside. And if it seems to you that your old wooden door does not quite fit into your interior, do not rush and throw it out. This method of repairing a door is very simple and will hardly take your time.

In this type of repair, decorative PVC panels are used, which is quite a budget and a simple option. They will help to give a normal door a presentable look.

Tools and materials:
- PVC decorative panel
- scissors
- polymer glue

Detailed manufacturing description:

In this article, before pasting the door, the author performed a number of preparatory work on wood. The ends of the door are cleaned from paint, sanded and painted in the desired color. The ends were painted white, in color with slopes and a door frame. The repair door is not continuous, so it is important to correctly measure the panels for cutting. There are 6 “windows” in the door, which means that there will also be 6. plastic sheets. If the door is solid, then it can fit into 4 sheets. The door will also be pre-lubricated with glue for better adhesion to the plastic. The panels themselves are easily cut with scissors.


After preparing each sheet, all sheets are lubricated with glue on the back side, after which they are applied to the door and pressed along the contour.



For more convenient fixing of the panels, you can use masking tape. After the second panel is already pasted, the sheets are fixed with adhesive tape on the sides and between each other.


In the same way, 2 middle and 2 lower sheets are glued to the door.


While, on the one hand, the door is already completely glued with plastic, a hole for the handle and lock is cut with a knife, the inside of the lock is inserted.


The door, on the other hand, is glued in the same way, and only after that the handle is installed.


The glue will dry out for about 4-5 hours, after which time the adhesive tape can be removed.


So, a fully finished door looks like.A minimum of money was spent on it, as well as little time. For all the work, not counting the drying of the glue, it took about two hours. No special tools or skills were needed for such repairs, and the result is pretty good.

It seems to me that the decorative panels along the edge will move away, especially if the doors close tightly. I redid the furniture, I agree with the author on the preliminary processing, then with a watercolor I painted with a hard brush the structure of the tree (knots, stains). And I opened it with several layers of colored varnish, now the selection of flowers for the tree is huge, I chose the "nut".

It looks very worthy in the photo, but if you look closely, plastic decorative panels reduce the price of the door itself. So you think that this is a summer cottage option.
If you choose panels made of wood or chipboard and a vintage handle, then such a door will not be ashamed to put even in an elite housing, especially if the door has natural wood inside.

A good solution for updating an old door if the canvas on it is not continuous and not even. I have the same door in my country house with the so-called carved windows. It is not possible to paste it with a self-adhesive film, but in this way, with the help of decorative panels, it is quite possible to update, everything is better than constantly painting. It will turn out like a new door.

Class! Well, how new! At home, like an old door, an old woman filmed lying in a barn. As if waiting for his own resuscitation. Handles and locks are removed before work, this is clear. You can also replace them by completing the update. But is it only allowed to glue the base of wood like that? I would like to revive Chinese metal-plastic at the entrance.

In the view from the photo and from afar, the updated door looks quite successful. But the author somehow modestly kept silent about how to update the slope and side of the door, which would also need repairs so that the entire entrance group would have a solid look. You won’t glue the plastic there, otherwise the door will simply stop closing and during operation the plastic will fly off from the friction.

If the old door is made of "real" wood, it is better to do without decorative "chemical" panels.
Burn the old paint with a hair dryer or blowtorch, sand it thoroughly, putty in all the bumps, treat it with a stain, cover it with several layers of varnish and ... the door becomes better than new. :-)

What a great idea! I had enough imagination only to glue the old door in the country with a self-adhesive film. Very beautiful decorative panel, under which really nothing is visible. I especially liked in this article that the author paid special attention to the preparation of the door surface. It depends on how long the door will last in the new design.
