Add originality and variety to your kitchen by making wooden hot coasters do it yourself! Thanks to a simple geometric pattern, these planks are great for any interior. In addition, they can serve as a good gift idea for many holidays.
Necessary tools and materials:
- wooden planks of square shape;
- stain;
- paper or wedge to protect the work surface;
- white spirit or brush cleaner;
- adhesive tape veneer;
- iron;
-scissors;
- foil or kraft paper to protect the surface of the iron;
- metal ruler;
- mat for cutting paper;
- brush;
- a rag.
1 step
In a well-ventilated area, cover wooden planks with stain. The author used a stain of 2 colors for a change. Apply the stain to the stands with a brush or a rag with an absorbent surface (such as cellulose).
2 step
Cut scissors or a paper knife from veneer tape into pieces of the required length and shape.
3 step
Put pieces of veneer tape on the planks and cover with a layer of foil on top. Then turn on the iron in the "Cotton" mode and keep it on the boards covered with tape and foil for 10 seconds. Try to remove the iron on time to avoid glue seeping onto the surface of the boards.
Remember that for each board you need to use a new piece of foil, because with repeated use it loses its protective properties.
4 step
After all the patterns from the tape have been applied, leave the planks for a day. Then check that the applied patterns are firmly fixed to the surface of the planks. To do this, place hot objects on the coasters (for example, a boiled kettle or a pot of hot water) and leave them there for 5-10 minutes. At the end of this time, remove objects from the stands and make sure that the patterns of veneer tape are not deformed on the surface of the planks.
Now the coasters are ready to use! Rather, call your family for tea and enjoy using the new coasters.
