For some reason, it is generally accepted that a machete is weapons, with which you can successfully fight with enemies. In fact, this knife serves quite a peaceful purpose. For example, in Latin America, a machete is used to chop sugarcane or to pave your way in the impassable jungle. Machete is a great thing for a tourist and a hunter. Make it do it yourself it is possible with the necessary tools and some skills.
For work, you need materials:
thin hardened steel plate
paracord - lightweight nylon cable with a core
a small piece of leather
leather rivet,
waxed thread or thin leather cord,
wax for leather
chalk, a container of water.
Tools required:
Bulgarian,
sandpaper,
knife sharpening tool,
awl, gypsy needle,
propane burner
hammer.
Step 1. Pattern and pattern
Surely you have a suitable piece of hardened steel in your household. Draw a diagram of the future knife on thick paper. Cut, and using the pattern as a template, transfer the pattern to the steel plate with chalk. Remember to draw a pen.
Step 2. Harvesting a machete
Grinder cut the workpiece. Do not neglect safety measures - work with gloves and goggles. Pre-clamp the plate in a vice. Make a wide cut on the handle, it will be needed to form the handle of the machete.
Step 3. Sharpening
Now sharpen the knife. You can do this yourself by heating the blade with a propane heating pad and cooling it as necessary in a container of cool water.
Step 4. The handle of the machete
Make a crank. Wrap the handle firmly with a paracord. Lay the turns of the cord, pulling it with effort. Fasten the ends of the cord well using a gypsy needle. If you have carpentry skills, you can make the handle wooden.
Step 5. Sewing a cover
Machete needs a cover (scabbard). For this you need a piece of skin. Cut it with a paper template, leaving a couple of centimeters on the seams and hem.Try on the resulting workpiece. If the dimensions are all right, make holes on the skin with an awl, at an equal distance from each other. Sew both parts of the case with a leather cord or waxed thread.
Step 6. Clasp
Sew a short clasp strap to the case. On the strap and case, fasten the two parts of one rivet.
A riveted strap will securely hold the machete in its sheath. Sew a small rectangle of leather on the inside of the case, for better wearing the scabbard on the belt. For the cover to last longer, sand the edges of the skin sections on it and treat it with a special wax for the skin. This is guaranteed to increase its service life.
Step 6. The final stage
It remains only to check the machete in action. If necessary, sharpen the blade again.
