It's no secret that the hammer is a necessary thing on the farm. But sometimes a metal knob wants to (or should) be replaced with a wooden one. It can be used in most cases, but it is quite heavy. Therefore, sometimes, to have such a tool in your suitcase device not prevent. Fig. 1
To get started, we stock up on the necessary materials and mechanisms:
- grinding machine,
- band-saw,
- wooden log,
- lathe,
- metal pin
- impregnation for wood, varnish.
The most important thing at the beginning of work is to choose the right wood. Because in the process of processing it will become your hammer. Try to choose a tree of more solid breed, it should not be soft, supple. Otherwise, your hammer will become unusable after two or three uses. By the way, a tree of very hard breed is difficult to cut even with a machine. So do not overdo it. Fig. 2
Next, we make a blank for the knob of the hammer. It should be in the shape of a cube. Pick the dimensions yourself, what you consider necessary. The main thing is that in the end result the handle should be proportionate to the knob itself. When determining the size, round the corners on the machine and bring the "head" of the hammer to mind. Fig. 3
We pass to the handle. It is best to use maple. Now take a log and process it with a band saw, and then on the lathe give the handle a normal look. Try to make a handle so that it is comfortable, fits easily into your hand. Fig. 4,5
It remains a little: put your head on the handle of the hammer itself. The handle in this case should go right through the knob and hang around a bit. Secure the structure with a small metal pin. The hammer will best be coated with special impregnation for wood. This will not only give it a beautiful look, but also save it from pest bugs. Fig. 6
Your hammer is ready to "knock" on something. Use with pleasure!
