Wattle - a decor element in a rustic style

A wattle fence, or a fence made of flexible branches, is a very interesting and effective decorative element that fits organically into almost any country the yard. Such a fence can become a real work of art, create a unique rustic flavor in a country house. And done do it yourself, become the real pride of any summer resident. Wattle easily transmits air, heat and sunlight, creating a favorable environment for plant growth. With it, you can designate a relaxation area or fence off a flower bed. Also, an interesting solution would be to divide the levels of the garden plot with different heights.

Realizing this idea is pretty easy.

Preparatory stage. Harvesting branches
Weaving rods can be bought ready-made, or you can prepare yourself. Suitable branches of willow, hazel, willow, birch. Branches are cut by secateurs, cleaned of twigs and leaves. This is best done in early spring or late summer. Before weaving, if the rods are not flexible enough, it is necessary to soak them in cold water for at least 5 hours. You can remove the bark from the rods. Then, subsequently, it will be possible to subject them to additional decorative processing. For example, varnish or paint. To easily remove the bark, it is necessary to boil the rods for 2-4 hours on low heat.

Vertical stakes also need to be prepared by sharpening the bottom. This will facilitate the installation of wattle. Parts of stakes that will be in the ground can be calcined over a fire or treated with bitumen for greater strength.

Markup
To wattle obtained the desired shape, you must first identify the line of the future fence. To do this, you can use small pegs and a cord. A wattle fence will be installed along the cord.

Driving Stakes
The distance between the stakes can be any, usually from 50 to 100 cm. The extreme stakes are driven 2-3 times closer to each other, at the bottom you need to fasten them with wire.

Weaving
The rods between the stakes are staggered. Each new rod should be a continuation of the previous one.The ends of the rods are cut obliquely, so they are easier to dock. It is necessary to take into account that the rods will dry out over time, and gaps form in the wattle fence. To avoid this, you can seal the rows of rods with a hammer.

Ready wattle can be decorated in a rustic style with clay pots or let a climbing plant run on it.
