Miniature pond

Miniature pond

The construction of a full-fledged reservoir on the site is a rather difficult task. After all, it is necessary not only to dig a pit and let down communications - a high-quality drainage system is also necessary, which will eliminate the possibility of waterlogging of the site. If there is no desire to carry out such large-scale work, or the area of the site does not allow you to create a pond or pool on it, but you still want to have a water structure, you can limit yourself to a mini-pond. Such a pond can be created from any existing large-capacity tank - for example, from an old tub. If the container has a presentable appearance, it can simply be installed in one of the corners of the site. If its appearance leaves much to be desired, it can be completely buried in the ground.

The diameter of a miniature pond is, as a rule, from half a meter to 1.2 m. You can diversify its water surface with plants, and if you wish, you can run fish into the pond. Sometimes in a small pond a fountain is also installed.

The reasons for creating a mini-pond may be not only the lack of space or unwillingness to conduct complex types of work on the site. Often, preference is given to this type of waterworks for safety reasons. If small children live in the house, many prefer not to take risks, and to avoid arranging large, hazardous water bodies.

Containers for a miniature pond should be made of stainless material. At the same time, it must also be non-toxic, so that it would be possible to carry out landscaping of the pond without any problems. To ensure tightness, for example, of a wooden tub, it can be coated with bitumen mastic from the inside.

It is best to place a pond in a sunny place, and the number of plants planted in it is usually limited to one or two. For example, dwarf water lilies will look very beautiful. As for the fish, their number will also be small. The best conditions for fish will be created by an indoor pond - in a separate tank, the water temperature fluctuates quite a lot during the day.

If the pond is located at ground level, a flexible film can be used instead of the tank. The temperature in such a pond is usually stable, which makes it possible to run fish there. Obviously, in winter, the fish will have to be relocated from the pond.

If desired, the site can be decorated with a pool and a fountain. Its difference from the pond is that in the pools plants are not planted and fish are not bred.

For five years we had a tiny pond, which we built exactly as the author describes. They dug up the old bath, decorated it with stones, plants. They built a fountain. Pros - the corner really enlivened the site. Cons-water, stagnating became a nursery of mosquitoes and a haven of frogs))). Especially on hot days, the flowering of water did not bring joy; often had to be cleaned, changed the water. And it turned out to be quite troublesome, despite the small volumes.
Last year, we started arranging another reservoir, larger in size, and most importantly, provided for a drain and a "settler" in it. Due to this, a "cycle" of water is created, circulation. Water retains freshness for a long time. We swim with great pleasure! : wink:
