Monstrohod - all-terrain vehicle from UAZ and gas-66

The all-terrain vehicle made by the author under a special order. The future owner wished to make some kind of crossing of an ordinary UAZ with gas-66 and add larger wheels and a few lotions to this composition for better off-road patency. Model Such an all-terrain vehicle has undeniable advantages because of the bridges, which are virtually indestructible even under the most terrible operating conditions. In addition, they have a lock and swap, which is also a lot of importance.

Actually to create the author specifically bought a UAZ for 20 thousand, and also used parts from the GAZ-66. A lot of effort was made to build such a machine, but the author believes that such an experiment was worth it.

Very controversial, even in my far from technical view, the project, but nevertheless it was born.

Consider the mechanisms and materials used in this all-terrain vehicle:
1) the internal combustion engine is left from the UAZ.
2) Manual gearbox from Gas -66
3) Front and rear axles from the same Gas-66
4) As the wheels, the author used A-trans with dimensions of 1300 to 700.

Let us consider in detail the most basic manipulations and improvements of the all-terrain vehicle.

First you need to familiarize yourself with the frame of the design, all the same, two completely different machines, both in terms of characteristics and class, should have been combined into one indestructible composition on a new frame.

The image below shows the frame design, or rather its bottom view:

After the construction of the frame, the author began to establish the basic elements of any all-terrain vehicle, and the car too.

In order to better understand the device of the all-terrain vehicle, as well as understand about the stability of the machine, you need to look at the location of the engine. After all, it is the all-terrain vehicle engine that carries the bulk of the entire structure.

The main power unit of the all-terrain vehicle, already mounted on the frame:

For a comfortable ride on bumps and bumps, as well as for greater durability and reliability of the structure, it is necessary to reduce the load on the frame and bridges, and this can only be achieved by installing a shock absorption system.

Therefore, I suggest that you familiarize yourself with the photograph attached below, on which you can consider in detail the mounting of the rear spring:

Unfortunately, the attachment of the front spring in the photo is poorly visible, but the author did not provide better quality.I can only say that the author had problems regarding the difference in width, but the solution was about the same as for the rear spring, so the mount looks almost the same.

As for the wheels, then everything is fine. The selected rubber is probably inferior in weight to only the most excellent tires from TRECOL, but thanks to these tires, we can say that everything will be fine with the bridges and they will last a long time. And because of TRECOL, there is an increased load on the bridges, therefore, choosing the reliability, the author decided to abandon them.

By the way, here’s a photo of the installation of the wheels, look at the difference in size between the usual UAZ and the all-terrain vehicle wheel:

It looks very impressive and the difference is palpable both in appearance and in cross-country qualities.

But in the photo below the author with his "brainchild" is depicted:

What are the advantages of this model of an all-terrain vehicle besides an interesting design and an impressive appearance?

One of the author’s good ideas was the decision to use the side boxes, which can be seen on the sides of the frame, below. These side boxes are hollow inside, that is, filled with air. This was necessary so that the all-terrain vehicle could move not only on land, but also on water. That is, it is these boxes that provide buoyancy for an all-terrain vehicle. Actually, thanks to this solution, thinner wheels than TRECOL could be used.

As already mentioned, the main feature of the all-terrain vehicle in reliable and non-killable bridges from the Gaz-66, their excellent qualities (as well as the build quality) are proved by the fact that during the year of intensive operation of the all-terrain vehicle, no problems were found regarding the all-terrain vehicle bridges.

The author of this all-terrain vehicle: Nikolai Osipov from the city of Tyumen.

Ideally, such a modernized UAZ should be able to move both on ordinary wheels and on "bridge-like" ones.
