Instructions on how to independently give a new and beautiful look to an old muffler of a scooter, and at the same time make it quieter.
Point 1. We need to work.
Materials:
• A piece of thin stainless steel, 0.4-1 mm thick.
• A piece of fabric, roll heat-resistant sound absorber, ~ 5 mm thick.
Instruments:
• Semi-automatic welding.
• A grinder with a thin disk of 1 mm.
Point 2. Reasons.
Over time, even the most famous manufacturers of motor vehicles, such as Honda, have a complete clogging of the muffler by exhaust deposits, after which the engine does not start and there are only two ways out, buy a new Chinese muffler or disassemble and clean the old one.
But since the reverse muffler system of the wave is completely absent in the Chinese muffler, that is, it’s just an empty can, it’s also very thin, and as a result for a two-stroke engine, this is a power loss of up to 50% and as a result the scooter completely stops driving!
Therefore, I recommend everyone to choose the second option, and not a replacement, well, if not on the Original!
During disassembly of the muffler, it is necessary to remove the internal sound absorber of the housing from fiberglass, after which the sound of the working scooter becomes louder and nastier (ringing), that is, the housing can rings and resonates, and the appearance is not as neat as before.
Therefore, the independent installation of an additional decorative case with an additional noise absorber will be very useful.
Item 3. Production and installation.
Turn off and remove the muffler.
We measure the circumference of the muffler can and the length between the welds.
To the obtained size of the circle we add 2-3 cm for overlapping, and to a width of 2 cm for bends.
From thin stainless steel we cut out the design rectangle.
On both sides of the wide side we make bends of 5-6 mm.
We polish the surface with GOE paste.
We make cuts with a thin disk with a step of 5 mm.
We remove sharp edges and burrs.
According to the resulting dimensions, cut out a section of the noise absorber (for example, asbestos weave, fiberglass or others) so that it fits tightly between the bends.
We wrap around the banks of the muffler so that the joint is on the back side.
For the convenience of welding, fasten with clamps or other fasteners (for example; rubber rings).
We carry out spot welding.
We remove the temporary fasteners, install the muffler on the scooter.
We start, listen to how quietly works and enjoy the brilliance!
