Despite the fact that popper of any color, size and type can be bought today, many anglers prefer to make such gear themselves. Firstly, catching on such tackle is much more interesting, and secondly, you can save on the purchase of gear.
The author of the article came up with how to simply make an effective popper out of a float.
Materials and tools:
- a float weighing from 8 grams (preferably a type like that of the author in the picture);
- a triangular file, files, a piece of sandpaper;
- jigsaw;
- hook tee;
- a guitar string or other suitable wire;
- a piece of lead;
- glue;
- drill.
Manufacturing process:
Step one. Cut the float
The float must be cut into two parts with a jigsaw. The author of this part of the float turned out to be colored half in red and yellow. But the color is not so important, it is important that the popper has a wider front and a narrower back. In this case, the narrower part of the popper is the yellow half.
Step Two Creating the nose of a popper
It is the bow of the bait that is responsible for what sounds the tackle will make when posting. First of all, the nose should be slightly sharpened at an angle. Thanks to this corner, the bait will make gurgling sounds. Now, in order for the popper to make “screaming” sounds, a groove needs to be made in the front part. This can be done in various ways, it is easiest to use a stone nozzle from a drill.
Step Three Hinge installation
To create loops, you can use a guitar string or other wire, suitable in diameter. Hinges are made by twisting.Further, in the installation places, you need to drill holes, they should be smaller in diameter than the twists on the hinges. Now the loops can be screwed into the popper, pre-lubricated with glue.
At the final stage, a weight must be installed in the back of the popper. Ideally, when throwing the bait, the back of the popper should fall under the water, creating the appearance of a fish that lifts its head to the surface of the water.
To install the weight in the back of the popper, you can make a separate compartment. But the author decided to simply stick a piece of lead to the back of the tackle.
In conclusion, you also need to remember to talk about the moment how to tie such a popper. The thing is that if you attach such tackle only to the front loop, when biting the loop can jump out and the fish will leave. In this regard, the line is only threaded through the front loop, and tied directly to the back. Or, on top of the popper, you need to put an additional fishing line, tying the loops in this way.
Ideally, it’s better to drill a hole through the entire popper and insert a solid wire.
At the very last stage of production, the popper needs to be checked in the bathroom. First of all, you need to pay attention to how he behaves in a floating state. Its lower part should be submerged under water. If this does not happen, add the load to the back.
You also need to make popper wiring through the water and listen to what sound it makes. Next, the desired sound effect is selected on the eye by regrinding the front of the gear.
According to the author, the tackle turned out to be quite effective, simple and cheap to manufacture.
