4x4 Mini ATV

4x4 Mini ATV

So light all-terrain vehicle with all-wheel drive was made on low pressure wheels from an ATV. The all-terrain vehicle has excellent cross-country ability due to its light weight. The author used several schemes for building an all-terrain vehicle, among which was a six-wheeled version and an all-terrain vehicle with a roof, but everything stopped on a chain drive and a light maneuverable motorcycle all-terrain vehicle.

Materials and parts used in the construction of this all-terrain vehicle:

1) Aurora-800 walk-behind tractor with a capacity of 7 hp
2) Izh chains
3) Wheels from an imported ATV
4) grenades and fists from vaz 2108
5) axles from vaz 2101
6) steering rack from vaz 2108
7) a profile pipe under the frame.

Consider in more detail the work carried out on the all-terrain vehicle, as well as other options for its design.

To begin with, the all-terrain vehicle frame with front suspension was welded and painted to protect against rust. At this time, work was also going on along the front axle, rear subframe and the preparation of disks for suitable rubber was expected.

This is how the axis of the all-terrain vehicle looks, as you can see it is continuous with the CV joint at the ends. Front-wheel drive:

After making the frame and installing the main units on the all-terrain vehicle, the trunk was made of aluminum, and the all-terrain vehicle itself was sheathed with plastic 4 mm thick.

Wheel weight is 7 kg:

The following engine was prepared for installation:

In front of the all-terrain vehicle, protection was made, and seats were also installed. In the initial version, the axles were the vulnerability of the all-terrain vehicle, so the author decided to replace them with two twisted axles from the vaz 2101, at the ends of which pipes were put on and trim pieces of sticks from the vaz 2108 were inserted, then the whole structure was welded. After such a modernization, problems with the axles were not observed, everything became much more reliable. The all-terrain vehicle is capable of speeds up to 20 km per hour, although it is possible to increase speeds by replacing the leading sprockets, but in this case, the traction of the all-terrain vehicle will drop. Therefore, it is important to strike a balance between speed and traction.

As a steering, a rail from the VAZ 2108 was installed. Thanks to the strong tread on the wheels, the throughput on bolts and dirt became much better.

two seats were installed and sheathed with protection:

There are no differentials on the bridges, since the axes are made of twisted semi-axes from the classics, the stars from Izh are welded on the axes, the size of the leading star is 21 teeth. Hexagons are also worn on the axles from the walk-behind tractor; stars with a dimension of 19 teeth are mounted on them.
Of the main breakdowns, there were only problems with the chains, tore the locks and the stopper flew.

As a search for a solution, tensioners were installed, but because of the low clearance, they constantly bent as they clung to the bumps in the road, so it was decided to abandon them. Therefore, the chain is pulled by removing the links like on a bicycle.

A variant of an all-terrain vehicle on large wheels and with a roof installed, which it was subsequently decided to abandon.

There was also a rather interesting option with six wheels made through a kind of trolley. All six wheels of such an all-terrain vehicle had a drive. A chain drive was also used there, but it was hard for the engine to cope with such a design, and weight gain also affected it.

Therefore, since the six-wheeled version came out too heavy, and also because of the specifics of the rear-wheel drive trolley, the clearance was very limited, the author decided to abandon such a design. Although it was considered the possibility of installing the engine from the CPD and the gearbox from a classic vase, but this would again lead to an increase in size and weight.

Here is a more detailed image of the rear trolley of the six-wheel version:

But what version of the all-terrain vehicle came to the author as a result:

It features a lightweight rear axle in a closed stocking, as well as a shortened base. The motor in this all-terrain vehicle is raised by 10 centimeters as well as the gearbox and clutch pedal, which is installed instead of the manual lever.

Here are photos from the tests of the all-terrain vehicle, as you can see it has excellent cross-country ability; all obstacles were overcome by the all-terrain vehicle on its own:

Photos of the off-road vehicle:

As you can see from the photos, the all-terrain vehicle was originally planned for one person, but later, after welding the frame, the author decided to install a pair of seats for the passenger. However, in a swamp with two passengers, an all-terrain vehicle travels very weakly due to overload. When driving through a swamp, the all-terrain vehicle is in second gear, power is enough with an increase in speed.
It would be possible to increase cross-country ability by installing more powerful wheels, but then the chains from IZh will not withstand.
The author uses this walk-behind tractor not only for entertainment, but also plows gardens and cuts furrows on it.
Here's a useful all-wheel drive moto all-terrain vehicle.
