Painting the walls is a fairly responsible event, because if the painting technologies are not followed, there is no need to talk about quality work. How to make the house have beautiful walls that could serve a long service?
Before you start painting the walls, you need to take care of quality surface preparation. If you are going to paint the walls in a new apartment, in which there has never been any finishing, then there should be no problems with painting. Simply remove all dust and dirt from the surface of the walls, inspect the walls for cracks and bumps. In the event that these are discovered, you will have to initially putty all the flaws.
It is very important that the paint rests on the most clean and even surface - only then will it look really beautiful and neat. After the walls are leveled, they should be covered with a primer. You can also use ordinary water-based paint, which is diluted in water.
To paint walls do it yourself in an apartment in which a different finish was already present or before the walls were painted, it is somewhat more complicated. After all, you will first have to carefully clean the walls of previous paint or wallpaper. Then, the procedure repeats the one we already described above: the walls are covered with putty, leveled and painted with a primer. You can, by the way, paint the walls on top of the wallpaper, if they adhere too tightly to the walls, but then they will have to be pre-primed with alkyd paint, which is diluted in white alcohol.
If you are going to paint wooden walls that are saturated with drying oil, then take care to scrape off the top layer of wood and treat the surface with flame retardants and antiseptic materials. It does not make sense to paint the tree on top of drying oil on its own, because the paint will quickly begin to swell on the surface due to the fact that drying oil in combination with paint and varnish mixes begins to release essential oils and gases.
In order not to stain the ceiling during painting, it is best to seal it with masking tape or cover it with a spatula. The painting itself starts from the corner of the wall. It will be convenient if you visually divide the wall into squares and paint over them gradually. The painting process itself is conducted from the bottom up: in this way, you will achieve that new strokes of paint will fall on the lower, not yet dried out.
It is necessary to lower the brush into the paint no more than by half a bristle, so you will prevent the paint from flowing onto the handle, and the work will be “cleaner”. After dipping the brush, in no case should you wipe off excess paint on the edge of the bucket. Simply tap the edge of the handle to brush away excess drops.
The layers of paint will lie easier and smoother, if you do not put too much pressure on the brush, painting is done in soft, smooth, uniform movements. To work with the roller, it is best to use a special pallet, into which you can gradually add paint in order to lower the roller there.
When painting walls, you can’t rush: the walls from this will definitely not become more beautiful, but the risk of leaving the pile from the brush on the wall or making the painting uneven is much greater.
