DIY potato planter

DIY potato planter
Everyone who has his own allotment of land, be it a farmer, summer resident, a simple villager knows what planting potatoes is, how hard and difficult it is. In villages, mainly potatoes are planted in large quantities since it is the head of the village. Tubers are used for food and pet food, as well as stocking up seed for subsequent planting for next year. It’s not for you in the city that you’ve gone and bought as much as you need, here work is from morning to night to have a crop in the bins. The smallest potato garden in the village is about one hundred thirty. It is scary to think how much work and effort should be put into this site. But people in the countryside live nothing and do not complain, as they are accustomed to physical exhausting labor since childhood, in contrast to the city dweller, as they say to each his own).

Since ancient times, mankind has been trying to facilitate and simplify the work of a villager, all sorts of invented fixtures and units for sowing and harvesting. And in the twenty-first century, our agriculture is, to put it mildly, in decline after the collapse of collective farms and state farms. There are not so many vehicles on the go and fuel and lubricants cost a penny. Private farms are increasingly using walk-behind tractors. This technique is popularly loved for its performance and not whimsical. Also on the walk-behind tractor there are many different attachments, for example a potato planter.

This hitch greatly facilitates physical labor, but it costs not small money for the villager and is only a dream. But our author does not agree with this. If you wish, you can do everything do it yourself and the potato planter was no exception to its principle. Climbing on the Internet, after consulting with a neighbor, I decided to assemble such a unit with my own hand. And so what will the author need to carry out this idea in life.

Materials: metal corner, tank from a Soviet washing machine, gear, chain, fittings, steel wire, channel, wheels.
Instruments: welding machine, grinder, drill, hammer, set of keys, screwdriver, wire cutters.

First of all, the author studied the drawings taken from the Internet and already began to do his work on them.

In the future, the author takes up the manufacture of a frame for a potato planter. In size sawed corners and channel.

Then he began to weld the structure.

Here is such a frame.

An axle with a gear is attached to the frame.

Then the author made ladles, scoops. This is the main part of the design, they will grab the tubers from the hopper and feed into the feeder and from the pipe will fall into the furrow.

Then the buckets are fixed on a chain that will be driven by drive wheels and gears.

Vertical rods were welded onto the frame to operate the chain with buckets from the drive wheels through the gear.

Well, actually the wheels are mounted on the axle and the chain is pulled.

In the role of a bunker, the author used an old barrel from a Soviet washing machine

That's essentially all the potato planter is ready.

The author poured potatoes into the hopper and drove around the garden to test his unit

Looking at him, a neighbor in the garden constructed a similar hitch on his iron horse. Now he plants potatoes using a potato planter.

Plagiarism. The author dug several photos of different potato planters and passed them off as his brainchild. Beauty.

As it is ensured that potatoes do not fall out at the place of rotation of the conveyor.
The root is knocked out of the chain link, the bucket mount is put on, and rivet on a new one, which subsequently does not affect the operation of the links.
It’s a little unclear how buckets are attached to the chain ....
