Automatic, self-service greenhouse

Automatic, self-service greenhouse

In a horticultural article, the design of a very practical, compact and low-maintenance (about ten minutes a week), self-service greenhouse, bringing a good harvest, is disclosed. The article will be useful to the vast majority of gardeners who are not able to devote a lot of time to their garden plot and facilitate their work, through the manufacture of such a greenhouse.

The following material and tool are required:
- capacity "Eurocube" 1 m3;
- a metal profile for drywall;
- hinges;
- self-tapping screws;
- scissors for metal;
- screwdriver;
- film;
- any embankment (sand, gravel, expanded clay);
- glass jar;
- 0.5l plastic bottle;
- a dropper.

To build the greenhouse, we take the Eurocube capacity of 1000 l and remove the upper part of the plastic container, as well as some metal parts of the frame, then fill it with sand, gravel or expanded clay, about 20 cm high. Next, the remaining part of the container must be filled with any compost (trim branches, foliage, grass) mixed with sawdust and peat.

After preparing the fertile layer, we will take up the construction of the rest of the greenhouse, for this we will arm ourselves with metal scissors and a screwdriver with self-tapping screws. Take ten profiles for drywall and assemble the necessary structure (as shown in the photo) and fix it on movable hinges for possible opening. On the assembled structure, a ventilation window must be placed, fixed by hinges with a central axis (with this condition it is not afraid of the wind) and using a wide adhesive tape we glue the film on the greenhouse.

In this greenhouse, one of the most important components for self-service is a window that will open and close automatically responding to the temperature in the greenhouse, thereby creating the most favorable conditions for the growth and ripening of fruits without human intervention. And how to do this, we will now explain.

Everything, of course, is ingenious, simple! We will need: dropper and two small containers (glass jar, 0.5l plastic bottle).Pour water into a glass bunk and close it tightly with a lid with a tube from the dropper sealed into it, released to the bottom. The remaining end of the tube should be guided through the lid of the plastic bottle, also to the bottom (the plastic bottle should be with a vent). We hang a glass jar for the main structure of the greenhouse, and a plastic one for the upper edge of the window leaf inside.

The principle of operation is as follows: during the temperature increase in the greenhouse, the jar will expand air and since the jar is tight, water will be squeezed out into the bottle thereby increasing its mass, thereby opening the window. Accordingly, when the temperature drops, the air will begin to discharge, sucking water back and closing the window.

For a week, the greenhouse calmly, independently, serves itself, for this all you need to do is pour two buckets of water and cover the surface of the soil with grass (for less evaporation).
