Several ways to heat the windshield washer system

On foreign cars, in most cases, the glass washer fluid is heated in the winter. At the same time, the glass is washed with hot liquid, this allows you to more effectively deal with dirt. On cars of domestic production there is no such function, but its auto you can equip it without any problems. The article will consider a variant of how, using the example of VAZ 2110, it is possible to install a heating heating system for a washer.
Several ways to heat the windshield washer system

Since the washer reservoir on the VAZ 2110 is quite far from the nozzles, the modernization process must be approached comprehensively. If water will be used for washing, then heating it only in the tank during frost will not be enough, it will freeze on the way to the nozzles or in the nozzles themselves. Therefore, nozzles and tubes must also be heated, along which the washing liquid will follow.

Materials and tools for tuning:
- a system for heating the Geyser tank or heating elements for seats (depending on the chosen method);
- hoses, tubes, clamps;
- cutting tool;
- screwdrivers, pliers and other tools.

The necessary materials depend on the method of heating a particular element of the system.

The process of upgrading the washing system:

Step one. Heated washer reservoir
The author offers two ways to heat the liquid in the washing tank. The first method involves using the Geyser system. When using such a system, water from the state of ice is heated to 75 ° C in 15-20 minutes. At an air temperature of at least -5 degrees, you can use water. If the ambient temperature is lower - 5 degrees, then you can add high-quality antifreeze. Such a system can be quite successfully and safely used at temperatures up to -20 degrees and the glass will not crack. How the Geyser system is installed can be seen in the photo.

A similar system can be assembled independently, this will save. For these purposes, you will need half a meter of copper tube with a diameter of 8 mm. It is important to use only copper, as steel will cause rust. Four clamps and a steam radiator hose will still be needed.
The copper tube must be bent, a spiral can be made from it. But, according to the author, even an even tube will be enough to warm the liquid to the desired temperature.Instead of copper, you can use a rubber hose, but its thermal conductivity is low and the liquid will not heat up so efficiently.

Next, the tube is inserted into the tank in any convenient way. The most important thing is that she does not press on the wall of the tank, otherwise it may crack in frost.

The tube is connected to the return pipe of the stove or in the context of heating the throttle assembly.

Alternatively, you can put another tank in which it will be heated, and connect it if necessary.

Electric washer reservoir heating
There is another option for heating the fluid in the tank, for these purposes, you can use electricity. For these purposes, a heating element from the seats is suitable, it is installed in the tank. In principle, only one tank can be equipped with heating, this will be enough if the temperature does not fall below -10 degrees. Otherwise, you need to modify the system further.

Step Two Heater washer nozzles

There are also two ways to heat nozzles in a car, using SOD and electricity. Let's consider each of them in more detail.

In the first case, antifreeze or antifreeze can be used to heat the nozzles. This can be done if the nozzles are placed on the frill, and not on the hood.

First, from the expansion tank you need to disconnect the steam outlet pipe that goes from the stove. Next, you need a copper tube about 15 cm long, it is inserted into the end of the hose from the expansion tank, and a new steam hose is put on its other end. Now you need to disassemble the frill and lay the hoses directly under the nozzles. Now, when the engine is running, the tubes will heat up, and thus the nozzles will heat up.

Using electricity to heat nozzles
You can purchase special nozzles to heat the nozzles, but sometimes they are not so easy to find. But this is not a problem, they can be made independently. The heating element is assembled from four chip resistors 1206 200 Ohm. They are connected in parallel. In plastic, a cut is made of the required depth, a heating element is installed, and then the whole thing is poured with epoxy on top.

You can also use two resistors of 0.25 watts and 150 ohms, which are connected in series. A second resistor is mounted above the nozzles. This system allows you to heat the nozzle inside to 56 degrees, and the temperature of the nozzles is 48 degrees. The system is connected to a separate button or to the rear window heating system.

Step Three Heated Washer Tubes

To heat the tubes, you can use the finished Termobox solution. How to connect it, can be seen in the photo.

You can also use the HotShot heating kit, it will allow you to heat the coolant to a temperature of 65 degrees.

If you approach this process yourself, then the tubes can be insulated using K-Flex material. You can also wind the washer tube with the steam exhaust pipe from the stove, this will allow it to unfreeze in cold weather.

In such simple ways, you can upgrade the washing system in your car.

You know, my position about “optional equipment” is always this: “You are not smarter than two hundred German engineers who invented this Mercedes” ....

A stand-alone coolant heater is actually useful. And manufacturers optionally install it!
Heated mirrors are very useful.(I can’t even imagine how without it! Scrap mirrors?))))) Therefore, now, probably, there are no cars without this option!
Heated seats are also a nice thing. And those whose seats do not heat up buy invoices. But this is a different case! This is a repetition of what is optional in the car.
And what, do you think, manufacturers who equip cars with the most complicated NEED options would not have thought of making a spiral in the tank? ))) But they don’t do it !! (I repeat: the phrase at the beginning of the article that this happens in foreign cars is nonsense of a sick imagination!)
Because it is not necessary !!! It’s not true that warm washes better! They perfectly wash off winter fluids for three “standard” strokes of the wipers, which automatically occur if you splash onto the glass.
Perhaps this idea arose when people poured water into tanks from poverty. And went to the Lada. Now, when everyone quietly allows himself to buy a windshield washer fluid - this is just NOT NEEDED !!!
So why invent it? You would have invented some new kind of iron on coals, or a samovar! : wink:
So about this I said! I also did not freeze in ice then. By the word "froze" I meant that it turned into a "snot" and spread on the glass. And since it was at night, the glass became completely opaque. This is the way Russians behave! There were no such problems with either European, or with our, Belarusian. (Again, I won’t drive them all. Perhaps they brought to us just the cheapest one, made without any quality control. Maybe there are a lot of normal Russians too? But I don’t want to try.)
All inventions are laughed at first. For example, when they came up with the railway, and someone didn’t take the steam engine seriously, and everyone laughed, and what we see today, the country will be able to live at least an hour without railway))).

well ... to each his own) But it’s best to fill the pervak .... and set fire: wink: For better effect, then rub with lard

And if in addition to jokes ... then the topic is quite popular)

I read it here, people say that in severe frosts, the liquid becomes viscous and does not wash well. And there xs.
“On cars of foreign manufacture, in most cases, the glass washer fluid is heated in the winter. At the same time, the glass is washed with a hot fluid,”

From the first lines ... What kind of crap? !!!! Tell me such a car, please!
At least on the Mercedes, Audi, Opel, this is not and never was !!! (I know the cars of these brands well, because I always drove only them! And I changed them a lot - I’ve been driving for more than 20 years and I haven’t kept a car for more than several years. At the time, I also sold cars - drove from Germany to Russia. ..... Anyway ... I have not heard such a thing! ... How could such a crap come to someone’s head at all? .....
Only the nozzles themselves are heated and not at all for the purpose described. It’s just that they, covered with snow and ice, freeze when the car cools down, because this melted snow has got into them.
Why should manufacturers do this? Indeed, from his point of view, water cannot be there !!! (Yes, and mine too. Water does not wash, so in the summer I fill in the “washer” They are, after all, and there are summer ones). And the water only spreads.
And spray hot water on a frozen glass ... Sorry, I wouldn’t do that .... Why? Check, crack, or not crack?
In addition, at speed, the water will freeze on the glass EVERYWHERE !! Somehow I had a Russian cheap omyvayka flooded. In the city without problems at -25. On the track at a speed of 130 I almost killed myself - I went ahead of the wagon, sprayed, because it was flying from it ..... and was blind! Frozen instantly! Reduced speed, tried it - everything is fine at 80. More - freezes. Since then, I haven’t taken Russian-made ones.

Yes, and actually ... Why is this? Who is pouring water now? Even in the summer .... No, it happens, of course. And it happened to me when it’s necessary to get there, but there’s no washer ... But the water washes very badly - anyway, when you arrive, you’ll fill in or wash it, or add ..... well, this crap, which turns water into a summer washer. ..
And in the winter, once I was traveling from Lviv and the washing was over ...And then they didn’t have any infrastructure on this highway at that time. So I poured a liter of vodka into the tank .... This is a nightmare !!! Shmonilo ... Only then I thought that the first traffic cop would be lucky for examination, after he sniffed from the window ...
Arrived, did not stop ..

boat or bike winch? : wink:

Why only in a barrel, if the circuit is electric, everything heats up there quickly. Well, I don’t know, I liked it, at least it looks spectacular)) But I wouldn’t use water in winter, it’s even scary to think how it freezes and breaks everything.
: winked: In 20 minutes only barrels, and tubes, and nozzles? It's worth it? Isn’t it easier to just buy an “ice-free”?
You will not believe (in vain doubt), I have four of them (cars). In addition to cars, a snowmobile, boat and bike. And on one of them, there is a real winch.
Author
When using such a system, water from the state of ice is heated to 75 ° C in 15-20 minutes

No need, drive without a winch and with frozen, dirty windows, no one forces you to do this))) I generally doubt that you have a car))
: winked: Again, these tests ?! And what are these tests? Here's a test for you, the car stood all night at -20. When the water in the barrel heats up (and I’m silent about the pipes)? Who will heat the nozzle, which will also freeze from the cold?
And if you add antifreeze (and it happens even in the middle lane to -30 or more), then why the hell is it all to fence?
Author
tests at -20 were conducted, a little? Well, if even lower, you can add antifreeze.
If there was such a prospect, pouring water into the washer barrel in the winter, people would reach for the idle crowds. And another problem, in the cold, as you leave the water in the barrel, it freezes. It is for the Europe, but not for our harsh winters.
Author
Well, the glass is heated from the passenger compartment :) Otherwise, you couldn’t be able to ride at all

and water in the cold instantly turns into steam by the way) Try to pour boiling water from a glass during a frost. See the joke)
Well, or in the second video, take a look at how everything works.
Wash the glass in winter with warm water is quite interesting, but it seems to me that the water in the cold will quickly freeze and ice will form even worse. This is for the southern regions where the winters are warm, but they will suit us.
