Such transport is beneficial for those who often travel to the country, to fishing, to the village, to garageif it is far away. On such a bicycle moped, fuel consumption will be minimal, probably there are no more such vehicles that would have consumed even less fuel. In addition, even if the gasoline runs out, you can get to your destination in the classic way using the pedals.

Another plus of this technique is that it does not require a driver’s license, because in fact it’s still a bicycle, because you can turn on the motor only outside the city.



Specifically, this article will focus on how you can install a bike engine from a chainsaw. Many in the garage were covered with unnecessary motors from chainsaws or even old chainsaws as a whole. Still for this purpose, the engine from the brushcutter is perfect.

Materials and tools for homemade:

1. First of all, you need an engine. The more powerful it is, the faster the bike will ride. On average, today there are chainsaws with a power of 1.5-2 horsepower, such power is quite enough to drive a bike with a speed of about 30-40 km / h.
2. Capacity to create a gas tank. Best of all, of course, if it was made of metal, it would be safer. But you can use plastic containers.
4. Bicycle cable and throttle to control the throttle.
5. Wires and switch for connecting the engine ignition.
6. Bolts, nuts, elements for creating an arm with which the engine will be attached to the frame.
7. Pulleys, belts, chains and other elements due to which the bicycle wheel will be connected to the engine.

Step one.Determine the type of motion transmission
Perhaps the most difficult thing in this homemade product is to convey movement from the motor to the wheel. It is important to correctly calculate the gear ratio. If the gear ratio is small, the motor simply may not pull such a load and the bike will not ride. If the gear ratio is too large, the bike will ride very slowly, and the engine, operating at high speeds, will overheat.

The gear ratio can be calculated using the example of one of the authors who managed to assemble a similar technique. With an engine power of 1.78 horsepower and a speed of 12,500 rpm, he used a gear ratio of 1:26. As a chainsaw was used model Homelite CSP3314.







The easiest way to transfer movement from a pulley to a wheel is directly from the motor, that is, by the same principle as the dynamo works. If you approach the process more professionally, then the rear wheel is equipped with an additional sprocket or pulley, and then it is connected to the engine using a belt or chain. Of course, it is best to use a belt drive, since the chain with such homemade products can fly off, and indeed it is unsafe.

Step Two Clutch
Grip is also a very important element in this mode of transport. There are two options for how to make it. The chainsaw already has a centrifugal clutch, that is, it is a clutch that automatically engages at certain speeds. So the wheel can simply be connected to this clutch, this is the easiest option.

Some friends do not use the clutch of the saw, but connect it to a bicycle rattle. Such a system works very simply, after accelerating and discharging gas, the bicycle rolls by inertia, while the ratchet is not interconnected with the wheel. That is, "lawn" once, you can then roll for a very long time in a straight line at idle.

The gas tank can be installed right next to the engine, but for safety it is best to place it on the frame. But in this case, you need a hose that you need to stretch along the frame to the engine.

As for ignition, everything is simple here, you need to stretch the ignition wire from the engine, and make a switch on the handle so that the engine can be turned off if necessary.

Also, to control the engine, you need to make a throttle, it can be borrowed from mountain bikes (buy ready-made). You need to remove the latch from the handle so that it moves smoothly, well, and then connect the cable to the carburetor throttle.

That's all, after assembling the home-made, you can start experimenting. Of course, it is important to check the brakes and additionally put the front brake, if there is none. The engine starts in a classic way, kickstarter, like a chainsaw.

The only drawback of this technique is the sound of a chainsaw, which will frighten passers-by. But if you try, this problem can also be solved by equipping the engine with a small muffler.
