The article will consider an example of a flying model of an aircraft with radio control. The author used foam board as the main material; it is light and strong enough for this kind of homemade. To control such homemade products are usually used classic technology. This is the presence of ailerons, elevators, rudders, and in some larger and more serious projects, you can even see the presence of flaps. Specifically, the rudder is not used in this model, and there are no flaps.
The rudder is usually used when driving along the runway, and it also keeps the steering angle in the air. Since the author in the previous homemade product did not use the steering wheel, in this homemade product it was decided to get rid of it.
Materials and tools for homemade:
- foam board (5 mm 1000X700 mm) and a sheet with dimensions of 3 mm 500X500 mm;
- mounts for servomotors;
- steel wire;
- three servomotors;
- electric motor;
- 11.1V battery;
- control panel for at least 4 channels;
- speed controller for motors without brushes.
From the tools you will need: stationery knife, ruler, square, meter, pencil, hot glue.

Step one. We cut out the necessary elements for the plane
First you need to cut the keel and rudder from the foam board. The easiest way to work is with a ruler with an office knife.
Then you need to cut the wings, in this case, the wing is monolithic, that is, whole. The shape of the wing can be any, the main thing is to observe symmetry. The author turned it swept.
Next, you can cut parts of the fuselage. In the pictures you can see the finished bottom for the aircraft, as well as side elements.
Step Two Moving parts of an airplane
On the elevator there is a moving part. To make this element, you need to cut the foam board in the strategic place to the middle. Then it breaks into two parts. After that, the blade is taken and the corners are cut off at an angle of 45 degrees.This will ensure that the steering wheel moves up and down. In order for the foam board not to tear and the aircraft to serve for a long time, one or several layers of adhesive tape must be glued from the outside. Similar actions are carried out with the wings of the aircraft, that is, with ailerons.
At the same stage, you can connect the keel and elevator. They should be located to each other clearly at an angle of 90 degrees. In the picture you can see how the wing and the tail should look.
Step Three Glue the base and side faces
After the side parts of the base are glued together, an engine is mounted on it. If the wing will be mounted on top of the base, then the engine needs to be tilted slightly down. If the wing is installed from below, then the engine should be slightly raised up. Also, some recommend turning the engine a little to the right, but the author sets it right and the homemade product flies perfectly.
After assembling the base, you can install the tail.
To control the movable part of the tail, a lever and a cable are used; for the lever in the tail, a special incision must be made. To control the elevator, the cable must be strong enough, since the steering wheel has rather large loads during flight. At the same time, it should be light. The author has steel cables. Well, then the cable connects to the servomotor, which moves the steering wheel.
After that, the manufacture of the aircraft can be considered almost finished. It remains only to install the screw, as well as connect electronics, for radio control. After checking whether everything works correctly, you can proceed to the first test launches of homemade work.
