A gas gun is a device that can shoot a variety of objects, it can even be potatoes or apples. As the energy for such a gun, gasoline, gas, a solvent and other substances that form a combustible gas during evaporation can be used. The gun works approximately like a car engine. That is, a combustible mixture of gases is created in it, and then ignited by a spark. As a result, the gases instantly expand and throw the projectile out of the gun. Of course, this is not serious. weaponsrather, such a device can be used for educational purposes or as a hobby for sports shooting. The author uses such a cannon to scare away crows that spoil the crop.
The cannon described below shoots with apples, so it is called the Apple Gun.
If you decide to assemble such a gun, it is important to understand that this device can be quite dangerous to use. For example, a cannon can be broken when fired. It also has to work with flammable substances. Well, you need to shoot, observing all the necessary security measures.
Materials and tools for assembly:
- 1 meter drain pipe with a diameter of 50 mm;
- adapter from 50 to 100 mm;
- connector 100-100 mm;
- a plug for 100 mm, for reliability it is better to use brown;
- 100 mm revision (Only an expensive brown revision is suitable for external use. This will make the gun safe);
- sealant;
- self-tapping screws with a length of at least 10 mm with a wide head for gyroc;
- reinforced adhesive tape;
- kitchen piezo lighter;
- two pieces of copper wire with good insulation;
- electrical tape;
- a screwdriver or screwdriver;
- drill and drill 1.5 mm;
- nippers;
- glue gun.
Gas gun manufacturing process:
Step one. Assembly of the main gun design
First, it is advisable to try to collect everything without sealant, since the first time it is likely that it will not work to collect everything correctly. If this stage is a success, now you can pick up the sealant and proceed to full assembly. The sealant must be applied to the inside of the connector 100-100 mm behind the rubber seal. Further, on its own, this part is connected with the revision. The connector must be inserted all the way in.
After this, the second side of the connector must be greased with sealant, then an adapter of 100-50 mm is inserted here. In this case, you need to determine the location of the trunk. It is important that the adapter rests against the revision.
The revision adapter must also be lubricated with sealant, then a plug is installed here. In the same way, a barrel pipe with a diameter of 50 mm is inserted into the adapter, you need to insert it until it stops. With the expanding part of the pipe, it will be necessary to immediately remove the rubber ring. Now the structure must be left alone until the sealant has completely dried.
For the final fastening of all elements, self-tapping screws are used. They need to be screwed in the places indicated in the photo. Holes with a diameter of 1.5 mm are drilled for self-tapping screws. When screwing in the screws, there is no need to rush, it is important not to turn them in plastic when tightening and not to break the thread. The barrel is attached using two screws, as for the adapter, connector and revision, then they are held on by 6 screws. Particular attention should be paid to the plug, it is mounted on eight screws. When fastening only on 4 screws, undermining was detected. Then the plug must be screwed with reinforced tape. You can also wind up the expanded part and mount of the gun barrel with reinforced tape.
Step Two We finalize the piezo lighter and make the ignition
To set the mixture on fire, the author decided to use the simplest lighter with a piezoelectric element, it was decided to abandon the electric ones with the battery. All that is needed is to correctly bring the lawsuit to the place of arson. First, the lighter needs to be disassembled and the piezo node removed from it, while you need to be careful and not tear off the wiring from it. Now we need to prepare two wires, it would be nice if at least one was high-voltage. The wires must be connected to the piezoelectric element and then carefully insulated. The wires should be straight, they should not have any twists with each other or loops, as this will lead to a loss of energy, and the spark will become weaker. Next, the lighter is assembled, and wires are removed from it. The wiring must be stripped at the ends and placed at a distance of 5 mm. If you click on the piezoelectric element, a bright spark should slip between the ends.
Next, in the plug at a distance of 40 mm from the end, you need to make two holes and then insert the wires into them. The wires are fixed using hot glue. When the glue hardens, you need to set the correct gap inside, so that a spark jumps between the electrodes.
Step Three Gun test
An air freshener was used to test the unit. As for the amount of gas, here everything is already determined empirically. If there is too little gas, the gun will not fire, only cotton will be heard. If there is too much, burning can also be ineffective or the explosion will be too strong and destroy the gun.
The gun is mounted on a flyer or other suitable support barrel up. A small amount of gas must be supplied to the chamber and then, without closing it, give a spark. In this case, a flame should burst from the throat. Now you need to purge the pipe or wait until the remaining gas comes out, puff a fresh dose of fuel and set it on fire. The first tests take place at idle shots.
If everything works well, you can load an apple shell into the cannon. To do this, you need a pipe with a diameter of 50 mm, with the help of it an apple is cut. A piece of apple should freely enter the pipe, go down and lean on the screws. If the apple enters with force, the cannon can break.
When the gun is working, it is important to monitor it so that cracks and other defects do not form in the attachment points. Also, when firing, you must strictly follow safety precautions.
