The collapsible grappling hook with a neodymium magnet at one end, and a paracord instead of a rope at the other, was invented and made by the author homemade.
Tools and materials:
-Bolt with a diameter of 1.9 cm with a nut;
- Rod with a diameter of 0.8 cm;
-Wire with a diameter of 0.5 cm;
-Neodymium magnet;
-Parakord 15 meters;
-Glue;
-Lathe;
-Drilling machine;
-Gas welding;
-Vise;
-Equipment for powder painting;
Step 1: Processing the bolt
First, the author processed the bolt on a lathe. In the head of the bolt made a recess for the magnet.
Left at the end of the bolt, closer to the head, turned the thread for the nut on the rest of the surface. I drilled a hole in the end for installing the ear, and in the middle of the first groove a hole for the pin.
After processing, such a workpiece was obtained.

Step 2: Processing the nut
As conceived by the author, the hook has three claws. For their installation in a nut drills three holes. Holes are made in the center of the nut face through one.
Step 3: Making an Ear
The author made an ear of 0.5 cm wire. He clamps the rod in a vice and wraps the wire around it. Trims the excess, leaving one ear. Inserts the straight end of the ear into the end of the bolt, and wedges it with a pin.
It cuts off excess files and processes them with a file.
Step 4: Making Claws
Of the wire makes a claw pattern.
According to the template, cuts from the rod three of the same length of the workpiece. The ends of the workpiece are ground on a cone. Grooves a groove.
Clutching the claws in a vice bends them, gives the form like a template.
Inserts claws into the holes in the nut and welds them with gas welding. In order to avoid thread disruption, during welding, the nut should be screwed onto the bolt, and the claw should not rest against the thread of the bolt.
It processes the place of welding with a mill.
Step 5: painting the hook
To paint the hook, the author used powder paint. Put the powder on the hook and put it in the polymerization oven.
Step 6: last step
At the end of the head of the bolt, superglue glues a neodymium magnet.
A fifteen-meter paracord cord is tied to the ear of the hook.
The grappling hook is ready.Of the advantages of this homemade product, one can note the small size and the ability to disassemble the hook for compact storage, which is important in traveling conditions.
