DIY gas generator


The use of gas from burnt charcoal has been known since the late 1800s. Gas was supplied through pipes to houses and used in street lamps. As early as 1862, an omnibus with a gas generator set drove in Paris. In difficult times, mankind again returned to gas generation. During World War II, about 450 thousand cars were working on gas in only one Europe. A large number of such equipment was in the USSR. Even now, cars with gas generators are used in North Korea.




Author homemade also decided to make a gas generator for his electricity generator.

Tools and materials:
-Metal bucket with lid and gasket;
-Can of paint;
-Porolon;
-A metal sheet;
-Different pipes with fittings;
- Shutoff valves;
- Heat-resistant sealant;
-Fasteners;
-Welding machine;

Step 1: Modifying the Generator
In order for the engine of the electric generator to work on gas, it is necessary to rebuild its fuel system. Dismantled the air filter and fixed the plate in its place. The tee was fixed on the plate. I screwed a ball valve to the top of the tee, an air filter on it. Redid the exhaust pipe so that part of the exhaust gas was fed into the furnace of the gas generator. Through the other input of the tee there will be a gas supply. This design will allow reuse of unburned fuel and at the same time inflate the flame.



Step 2: Production of a gas generator
As the basis for the gas generator, the author used a metal bucket with a tight-fitting lid.
Cut out three metal plates. One of them was bent under the curvature of the bucket.

Put a plate to the bottom of the bucket outside. At a distance of 5 cm from the bottom of the bucket made a through hole. Made four holes for mounting the plate.




Fastened the inlet tube to the plate using a welding machine.

I applied a high-temperature silicone sealant to the plate. Screwed the plate to the bucket with four bolts.

In the same way, a gas outlet pipe was fixed in the lid of the bucket. Here the author used two plates, one on top of the lid and the other on the bottom. The gas outlet pipe is installed in such a way that it does not slightly reach half the furnace.




Step 3: gas filter
Since during combustion a lot of dust rises up together with gas, which can damage the engine, the author installed a filter in the highway. As a filter, the author used a can of paint and foam.He made holes in the bottom of the can and in the lid. I installed a fitting in the holes. He put foam in the jar. Installed a filter in the gas supply pipe.



Step 4: Coal
The author used coal purchased in a store as fuel, although in the future he plans to produce it himself, burning firewood in a closed barrel. The size of coal should be more than 3 mm, but less than 20. It is advisable to use coal from hardwood.


Step 5: Testing and modifying the gas generator
Having put fuel in the furnace, he lit a fire. Having blocked the engine air filter, pulled the starter cord. Gas began to be sucked into the carburetor of the engine. Regulating the air supply, started the engine. The engine worked properly, but there were some flaws in the gas supply.
When checking with a gas analyzer, it turned out that gas leaks occurred through the connections. A plastic pipe mounted on the engine exhaust also began to melt.



The author installed a new adapter plate with a thread on the carburetor. Also, plastic pipes were replaced with metal ones. No subsequent leakage was detected.


To stop the combustion process, the author used stubs.

Also, the author of the home-made attempt, using an automobile compressor, to pump it into a container in order to receive liquefied gas. According to his assumption, due to the fact that the compressor is weak, this did not work. The compressor was broken, and the air-gas mixture did not want to burn in the gas stove. The author is working on this problem, and in the future I hope we will get acquainted with its installation for liquefying the produced gas.

strange not a single comment. But the idea is a bomb. Only the author did the wrong gasgen. I plan to do a similar installation to get gas for cars.
