This time we will learn how to assemble a beautiful and simple lamp using metal jars. First of all, this will make it possible to find use not for the necessary things, but in fact for garbage. Regularly, many of us eat various canned foods, and containers from under them, of course, throw away, polluting the environment. This project will give a “second life” to this kind of material.
As a basis, the author decided to use metal jars from baby food, cardboard tubes were also needed, such remain after the cling film or foil. If desired, it will not be difficult to find analogues of such materials.
Materials and tools for homemade:
- a cardboard tube (another similar material is suitable for creating a base);
- metal cans (from canned food, baby food, etc.);
- glue gun and PVA glue;
- acrylic varnish and water-based paint;
- brushes;
- light bulbs;
- cartridges;
- wires;
- switch;
- electrical tape;
- small bulbs;
- lace, fabric or napkin, nylon or satin ribbon, beads or decorative flowers.
The manufacturing process of the lamp:
Step one. Choice of lampshade and light bulbs
In order to choose the right cartridge with a lamp for a jar, it is best to go with it to a hardware store. Here, you can try on the lamp yourself, or turn to the help of specialists. The author chose 2-3 watt LED bulbs, the cartridges were ceramic, for spotlights.
The most important requirement here is the absence of strong heating. If you put a halogen lamp, it will very strongly glow the jar, and the decor elements will melt.
Step Two We prepare the basis of the lamp
A cardboard tube is suitable as a basis for a lamp. First, you need to put a layer of paint on it and let it dry, in order to speed up this process, you can use a hairdryer. Then, on top of the paint, you need to apply PVA glue, a fabric or napkin for decoupage is glued to it, another layer of glue is applied on top. When the glue dries, the pipe must be opened with a layer of varnish.
Further, when the glue dries, it is necessary to make three holes for the wires in the pipe, they must be on the same line and be at the same distance from each other. To hang the lamp through the pipe, you need to stretch the cord or tape.
Step Three Jar preparation
From the jars you need to remove the labels, as well as clean them from glue.It is best to use a solvent to remove the adhesive, as water can cause rust. Next, the glue gun comes into play, using it you need to decorate the jar with lace, beads, flowers or other decorative elements. You can also paint the cans with the help of a special paint for painting metal, but because of the strong smell, such work must be carried out outdoors.
Step Four The final stage. Cartridge installation and assembly
In the center of the bottom of each can, you need to make a hole, then wires will be output through it. It is best to drill holes, in which case they will be even. In extreme cases, the holes can be punched with a nail and a hammer.
Now you can insert lampholders into the cans with the lamps and output the wires through the bottom of the can. It is important at the same time to choose those lamps that do not heat up, otherwise the lamp will quickly deteriorate, and indeed it is rather unsafe. The cartridges on the inside can be fixed with hot glue.
Now you can connect the wires from the lamps to the main wire, which passes in a cardboard tube. You need to connect the lamps in series, according to the author. Here it all depends on the power source and the operating voltage of the lamps. If the lamps are designed to operate on 220V, then they must be connected in parallel. Wire connections are best insulated using heat shrinkage rather than electrical tape.
That's all, the lamp is ready. It remains to suspend and connect to a power source. To do this, you can make a plug under the outlet or install a switch. With the help of such a lamp it is possible to decorate a kitchen or a nursery, however, any other room, if the lamp fits into the interior.
