Owners of hamsters know that if the hamster were fat, he needed to run. In order for him to run, there are such fixtures like wheels and balls. The disadvantage of inexpensive wheels is their noise, and those that are noiseless are much more expensive. A hamster is an animal leading a nocturnal lifestyle and its nocturnal races on a wheel interfere with sleep. Faced with such a problem, the author homemade decided to make a cheap and silent wheel from improvised materials.
Tools and materials:
-Faulty hard drive;
-Large aluminum can;
-Screwdriver;
- Thermo-glue;
-Scissors for metal;
-Wire;
-Marker;
-Rail;
Expanded polystyrene;
-Insulating tape;
Step one: disassembling the hard drive
First, the author parses the hard drive. He needs a spindle for a wheel. Carefully removes it taking care not to damage the cable.
Step Two: Impeller
The impeller, the author made of a beer can. He made markings on the bank and cut off the excess with scissors. I polished the edges of the can. I washed it.
Step Three: Enhancing the Case
To strengthen the case, the author glued two slats to the bottom of the can.
Step Four: Install Spindle
A spindle is glued in the center of the can. After the glue hardens, it scrolls the wheel checking it for vibration.
Step Five: Polystyrene Foam
Tightens the wheel with polystyrene foam. The author did not stick it, but fixed it with electrical tape. This will allow to replace the expanded polystyrene in the future.
Step Six: Install the Wheel
A wire fixes the wheel to the cage.
The wheel is ready. After testing, the author was completely satisfied with his silent work. Now you can not be afraid that the hamster will not sleep at night.
In conclusion, the author says that if you want, you can connect a cable from a 3-phase spindle motor through a rectifier and a specific circuit to a speed measuring device. Thus, you can measure how fast the hamster runs.
