Hello to all lovers homemadeAs you know, there are a lot of options for the manufacture of scabbard, they depend both on the assembly principle and on the material used. In this article I will tell you how the author made a very budgetary as well as practical option, which is not as difficult to manufacture as it seems, as it will be assembled from a plastic pipe. Touching on the topic of knives, I want to say that this work does not require any costs, since it assumes that most people who are fond of homemade things have all the materials needed for the product. The idea of creating a sheath came when, after repairing the sewage system, there were pieces of plastic pipes that turned out to be just in diameter to conceal the blade of the knife, and there is also a part for reserve. And here is the knife for which this homemade product will be made.
To make homemade sheath, we need:
* A piece of plastic pipe.
* Construction hair dryer.
* Hacksaw for metal.
* Knife.
* Drill on the diameter of rivets.
* Rivets and rivet gun.
* Sandpaper.
* Paint, color of choice, in this case black.
* Fastener for a belt.
* Drill with a cutting wheel.
* The desire to tinker and spend a little time.
When all the materials and tools are ready, we go directly to the manufacture of the sheath.
Step one.
To get started, take a plastic pipe and saw off a piece, the length of which should be slightly larger than the knife blade itself. This reserve is being made in order to have something to process for greater accuracy, since it will be difficult to immediately adjust the size to the blade.
Step Two
After that, we cut a plastic pipe of a suitable length, as shown in the photo below.
Care should be taken to the next step, since working with a construction hairdryer is dangerous, therefore we wear gloves for our own safety, thereby protecting ourselves from accidental burns. With the help of a building hair dryer, we heat up our pipe, on the regulator we set the temperature in the range from 300 to 500 degrees.
Step Three
Then, as the plastic warms up enough, we insert a knife between the pieces of plastic and press the plastic to the knife, thereby we need to give the plastic the shape of a knife blade, also around the edges of the handle. For greater convenience, you can clamp the workpiece in a vice, they will also help keep the desired shape.
Step Four
When the shape of the plastic has taken the desired shape, we need to allow the workpiece to cool, and then with the help of a knife we need to cut off the excess and mark the places for drilling holes, where rivets will then be installed.
Step Five
Using a drill and drill, the diameter of which is equal to the diameter of the rivets, drill holes, then install rivets in them and use a rivet gun to rivet them.
Using a drill, we saw off the studs from the rivets, they remain because we do not need to press the rivet gun strongly in this case, otherwise the rivet will push the plastic and come out of the hole, thereby it will not hold, and we do not need this.
After all the studs are sawn off, you can give the workpiece a better look, do it with a spray can of black paint, gently spray over the entire surface.
Step Six
At the end, you need to come up with a holder mount to the belt. Without hesitation, it was decided to buy it in a hunting store. This mount had to be redone a little, after completion we fix it with rivets to the scabbard. This option was simpler, but such a fastening can be made independently from leather or from another durable material.
As a result, it turned out pretty nicely and on a budget, which is also an important factor, and there is more than enough strength for such sheaths, the knife holds in them confidently and will not let you get hurt accidentally.
Thank you all for your attention and good luck in implementing new ideas.
