In this article I will tell you how the author made the original pendant-knife, which will be made mostly of wood with its own characteristic texture.
The first step is to determine the materials that will be needed to make a pendant knife.
So, to make ours homemade will need:
* Wooden board 5-8mm thick.
* Metal plate, preferably an old knife. In order to get a metal plate for this pendant knife, the author wanted to sacrifice his old craft - a machete, created from a kitchen knife for cutting meat. But it was not possible to drill the machete, so I had to use less carbon steel, despite this, to drill the central hole in the washer, it was necessary to use incremental drills from 5mm to 12mm, not sparing grease.
* Drilling machine and quality drills.
Step one.
First you need to simulate the dimensions of the knife.
I did not want to make mistakes, so it was decided to make a prototype, for example, from cardboard or other soft material, the processing of which does not take much time. This model The author made the prototype from a lightweight composite sheet, it is easy to cut, and it drills perfectly. It can be seen in the photo that the prototype is not equipped with a locking system, the fastening cord acts in its quality. To bring the knife into working condition, you need to remove it from the cord and open the blade, otherwise it will not work.
Step Two
Now you need to drill holes.
So, first we drill a central hole of 12mm, then one 3mm for the axis and two 5mm for the cord. It will be easier if you first install the blade blank, which must be sawed in the form of a circle from a metal plate into wooden washers, and then outline and drill a hole for the axis. After drilling, insert the axis and drill holes for the cord.
Step Three
At this stage, you need to give the necessary shape to the cutting part, namely the shape of the beak, then the homemade product will look more like a chick's head. To do this, mark the contour on the washer, then on the grinder we form the blade, and you also need to periodically cool the blade so as not to lose the properties of the metal and not over-heat it.
Step Four
And now it's time to put our pendant knife together, first we put a spacer between the wooden washers with glue, its thickness should be slightly larger than that of the blade.After giving the glue to dry, add the cutting part, that is, the blade, then the axis, drill holes for riveting with a drill, do it very carefully, and then rivet the homemade product.
Now you need to process the sides of the knife, and also use a sandpaper to round the wooden washers, after which you need to wipe everything from wood dust and cover it with oil or varnish for the tree at your discretion. In our homemade product, the author applied walnut oil, the knife with such a coating looks beautiful, and what you need is shiny.
So our pendant knife is ready, in conclusion we can say that it turned out to be slightly heavy in order to be worn on the woman’s neck, but in the next one this nuance must be taken into account if the knife is needed light.
