To make a kaleidoscope, we need the main components:
- an empty can of pringles,
- three plates with a mirror surface,
-transparencies,
- beads, beads, colored pebbles in general, anything to create a pattern,
- pieces of foam
- adhesive tape and hot melt.
To begin with, I want to warn you that the ideal option for making a kaleidoscope is a mirror and I do not recommend using foil, as the effect will not be the same. Since I didn’t have a mirror at hand, I decided to use metal plates with a mirror surface. I indicated all sizes in the description (2 plates with a size of 15x2 cm. And 1 plate with a size of 15x4 cm.). First, we need to fold an isosceles triangle from our plates with the angles of the sides at the base of 36 degrees, glue our triangle with tape and finally fix it with hot glue.
Then it is necessary to cut off the upper part from the Pringles can, so that the lower part is equal to the length of our mirror triangle, plus 1-2 centimeters.
The upper part is not discarded, as we still need it. Then in the lower part in the center you need to make a hole. To determine the center of the circle, we need a compass and a ruler. We measure half the diameter of the inner part of the can, make 2 marks and draw a chord, then draw a second chord and draw the edges crosswise, the intersection will be the center of the circle. After that, in the center of the lower part of the can, we make a hole with a diameter of 1 centimeter.
Then we insert the system of mirrors into the kaleidoscope cylinder and center and fix the mirrors with polystyrene foam pieces.
After that, cut off from the top of 2 cylinders with a width of 1 centimeter and 1.5 centimeters, respectively. We remove a small fragment so that it fits into the inner diameter of the can and glue it from the inside at the level of the mirror system. This design will fix the bottom of the patterned chamber.
Next, from a transparent film, cut out a circle equal to the inner diameter of the can, which must be placed inside the kaleidoscope on a system of mirrors.
Then glue the second cylinder to the inner surface of the kaleidoscope. (Thus, we will slightly reduce the volume of the pattern chamber and fix the film.)
Then we take the lid from the can and a piece of scissors paper and clean the surface to a dull state.
After that, we find various small objects in the apartment and fall asleep in the patterned chamber.
Then we take the lid from the can and with the help of hot glue we seal our design.
And so that our kaleidoscope looks just like real, we glue the surface of the kaleidoscope cylinder with wrapping paper.
