Create Newton's luminous pendulum

Hello!

This article is dedicated to all lovers of unusual things. The author suggests that you and me make a rather interesting device - Newton’s luminous pendulum.

To create this homemade you will need a little knowledge in the field of electrical engineering, carpentry, and the appropriate tool.

Tool:
- drill with a set of nozzles;
- pliers;
- soldering iron.

Material:
- 5 glass balls with a diameter of about 2.5 cm;
- 30 mm copper welding rods;
- pine boards;
- wires;
- 5 LEDs;
- several batteries.

To begin with, we take five glass balls with an approximate diameter of 2.5 cm, you will need to make a hole in them, for this we clamp them in a vice, take a drill with a specific nozzle - we make small indentations. Then you need to prepare the LEDs, they need to be slightly shortened by cutting off the rounded upper part, for this we use a cutting disk from dremel or grind on emery. Next, we take the glue and fill the holes with it and install the LEDs.

Let's move on to creating the case.
We will need several planks, the sizes can be taken at our discretion. To do this, we cut them into certain parts and glue together, a small box should turn out. At the bottom of the box, we make three holes for the switch - 47 mm, and four holes for supports of 30 mm. We will use a knife switch as a switch, for its manufacture we need a small copper plate in which we make two holes, on one side we install a small wooden handle, and the other side will be fixed in a certain place.

Next, you need to make three small copper brackets, they will close the electric circuit. We install all these honor on the case of the box.
Next, you need to take two copper knitting needles of a certain length and bend them, they should turn out in the form of staples. When everything is ready, we install them in the holes made, and align them in height, for this we use wooden blocks, fix the rods with superglue, allow to dry.

Then we take two wires and solder them to the rods, on the one hand “+”, on the other “-".

Look at the photo more clearly.

And now we will slightly modify the contacts of the LEDs.

To do this, take the nippers and bend the contacts in the form of a circle, cut off the excess ends. Next, take a thin copper core and thread it through the holes, leave the length of the wires with a margin, solder the contacts together so that there is no short circuit - cut off the small remaining piece between the rings.
Now we need to determine the center of the structure when we find out where it is - we take one ball, select the height we need and hang it at the ends, make a knot.

The balls must be suspended on two threads at an angle to each other, so that the plane of oscillation of the balls is kept constant, and the strokes are central, you can check this by putting the ruler at the bottom, and seeing how the balls move, if the vibrations occur parallel to the ruler, then everything is set correctly. Then, using a soldering iron, solder the ends to the U-shaped rods.

All LEDs, as you already understood, are connected in parallel, that is, on one U-shaped bracket there are 5 "+", and the other 5 "-". Solder the wires to the circuit breaker, put a resistor, and select the desired value. We use two AA batteries as power, we fasten them to the case with a piece of Velcro.

The design can be considered complete.
As a result of all the actions, a very interesting design called the Newton's pendulum came out, which will decorate the desktop and give a highlight to the interior.

I am attaching a video that shows how this design works.

Thank you all for your attention!
