Snowshoeing is a great thing when hiking in the forest (for example, for hunting), and in many villages it is sometimes noticeable that sometimes you just can’t get through without safety shoes. Snowshoes allow you to walk on the snow cover without falling through it knee-deep, but all by increasing the area of contact with the surface.
There are a large number of various options for making snowshoes. do it yourself. Often you can see snowshoes made of plywood and fiberglass. But in this case, the option of manufacturing snowshoes and a polypropylene tube and rope will be considered. They are light, strong, durable and fairly easy to manufacture.
Materials and tools for homemade:
• two polypropylene pipes;
• rope 4-5 mm thick;
• slings with buckles;
• gas stove (for heating pipes).
The process of making snowshoes
Step 1. Snowshoe shape
Polypropylene pipes bend quite well if they are preheated on a gas stove. You can give a semicircular shape to any improvised item, in this case a kettle was used. To fix the desired shape of the bend, after bending the pipe auto brings it to cold water and waits for cooling.
The ends on the other hand should be bent as much as possible with your hands. When the form has formed, we bring them to the fire and glue them together, then again under cold water.
Step 2. Binding
Sometimes they may be advised to weave snowshoes from an ordinary kapron thread, but in reality it is not the most successful option. It is best to use an ordinary rope with a diameter of about 4 mm. Weaving is made from the pipe to the center and bandaged, near the edges you need to use the figure of eight knot, in other places you can use any other. When weaving, the cell should be made as small as possible, so snowshoes will not fail.
Step 3. Final work
For snowshoes to hold well, you need to use three slings on each leg, you can use two, but in this case it is not very convenient to move. In places where the ends were interlocked, it is desirable to additionally wrap with a rope, so it will be more reliable.
