Surely, one of us who once caught fish caught a hook on a snag under water, and then he had to tear his tackle and go home with a sad look. Well, or bandage the hooks and other gear again. And well, if this happens in the warm season, and if all this is done in winter, on ice in frost? And indeed the loss of mormyshka or spinners is a sad event, because they cost money, and sometimes considerable.
To reduce the risk of gear breakage when fishing in winter, almost to zero, you can try to make a cut-out for yourself. With this tool you can save tackle in the event of a hook in most cases.
In total there are three types of winter trailers, one is designed to save small gear, for example, mormyshka. The second can be unhooked spinners and cones, and the third is designed for balancers. Technically, such methods do not differ very much, it's a kind of hammer on the fishing line, which allows you to knock the tackle off the hook and thus free it. They differ mainly in weight, because knocking down an mormyshka is much easier than a wobbler or a spinner. Well, there is still a difference in terms of attachment to the fishing line.
The trailer for balancers has a weight of about 150-250 grams, for cones and spinners from 70 to 150 grams. Well, for mormyshek enough weight 30-70 grams. When choosing a weight, it is important to take into account that a too heavy cut-off can break off when a fishing line is hit.
Materials and tools for creating a release:
- metal pipe (suitable from steel, brass, aluminum, etc.);
- lead or tin;
- strong fishing line (for tying a trailer);
- steel wire with a diameter of 1-2 mm (a pin is made of it);

Step one. We prepare the case
The author used a brass tube as a body (base); in general, a tube with an outer diameter of 12-18 mm and a wall thickness of up to 2-2.5 mm is suitable for such purposes. It is better that the wall thickness is as thin as possible, otherwise the release will be difficult. The length of the tube must be cut approximately 40-60 mm. If it is not planned to fill the body with tin, then the tube should be as heavy as possible.
Step Two Pin making
Now you need to make a pin, with the help of it the hook will be attached to the fishing line of the fishing rod, and with the help of it the fishing line that holds the hook itself is attached. The pin is made of steel wire with a diameter of 1-2 mm. The wire should spring, if it is soft, it needs to be hardened, that is, heated, and then sharply cool in water. But before hardening it needs to be bent as seen in the photo.
In principle, after the manufacture of the pin, it can be inserted into the tube, after which homemade You can already use it. But this design is not very reliable, and it weighs a little. Therefore, it is best to refine it by filling it with tin.
Step Three Fill with tin
To give the strength of homemade and get the right weight, tin or lead is poured into the tube. You can not fill completely, but, for example, by half. There are several ways to fill tin. For example, the tube can be installed horizontally, separately heated in a container of tin and then pour into the tube. And you can heat the tube itself, gradually throwing pieces of tin into it.
When this whole thing cools down, you will need to grind the excess with sandpaper or a grinder. After that, the homemade product is ready.
For ease of use, you will need to take a reel and wind a strong fishing line on it, a cord is attached to the fishing line. Using the device is very simple. If you catch on something at the bottom, you need to get the line for the release pin, and lower the release to the bottom to the place of the problem, so to speak. And then make a couple of jerks up, ensuring the free fall of the trailer on the mormyshka. As a result of the blows, the tackle must detach.
