The creator of this trailer was inspired by a similar product from AndreaArzensek, the recipe of which was posted on Instructables. He was changed to a different skill level and improvised materials. Trailer made for rare trips to the farmers' market and just as some kind of challenge for themselves. He is very light. The design of the product allows you to disassemble it into parts for storage in the garagewhere there is little space.
Materials and tools:
• Oak floorboards;
• Cedar;
• Old disassembled bike;
• Pieces of aluminum and steel;
• Bolts, nuts;
• Drill, hammer, screwdriver and wrenches.
Step 1. Collect the necessary materials
The author used unnecessary oak planks from the old house and abandoned cedar planks from the old project. You will also need a bike that needs to be taken apart. Corner mounts from tables and chairs are suitable as fasteners. If you have steel or aluminum sheets, make the necessary part by hand, bending and drilling in the right places.
Step 2. Disassemble the bike
Disconnect the wheels, they will be used in the trailer. Rama can be left as a basis for future crafts.
Step 3. Prepare the wood
Cut the boards with a saw. The dimensions are not important, it all depends on the length and width of the future trailer. Wood will be needed as a supporting element of the product frame.
Step 4. Drill holes
Use a drill to make holes for fasteners.
Step 5. Assemble the frame
Additional boards can be attached to strengthen the structure.
Step 6. Make Wheel Fasteners
Cut and drill pieces of aluminum. The “channels” for each tire should be slightly different. Mark one of the mounts with a marker. They are attached to the frame with bolts.
Step 7. Connect the mounts and wheels
The place for each "chassis niche" should be different. This is due to the characteristics of the tires. Gather it all together. Now it looks more like a trailer.
Step 8. Attach the trailer to the bike
The author used the same method as AndreaArzensek, however, the thickness of the metal of the part was unsatisfactory.In his opinion, this part of the instruction should be rethought, here it is necessary to include a kind of shock absorber. The fastening to the transport should be stronger than the connection with only a screwdriver.
Step 9. Modify the frame
Attach the plastic basket with rubber cords, add the walls and box to the back of the basket. The box can be removable if you want to disassemble a storage trailer for the winter.
Step 10. Test Run
Ride a bike. Check if everything is properly attached, put the load in the basket. Homemade ready!
Conclusion
Such a trailer is an indispensable thing if you spend a lot of time on a bicycle. It can be used for its intended purpose when traveling to a store or going on a picnic. The amount of cargo carried can be increased by adding more wooden containers and reinforcing the frame.
