The process of making a ski bike
Step one. Cut metal
To make a metal version of a ski bike, you need to get some steel bands. The author uses specimens with a thickness of 3 millimeters. You can cut metal using an angle grinder. The length of the front side of the ski is 20 cm, and the lower part is 10 cm. Thus, 2 elements of each size are made. It is necessary to connect all the parts into a triangle, while the angle does not matter much. After that, it is necessary to weld the upper part of this figure connecting the two other parts.
Step Two Welding
After the upper part is welded, the resulting element must be turned upside down. The bicycle hub with bearings must be welded to the inside of the triangle. To get the hub, the author removed all the spokes from the wheel of the bicycle and separated it from the center. After the hub is welded to the inner corner of the triangle, the structure can be welded to steel strips. The author put the triangle on the strips, backing 5 cm on each side of the triangle, and cut it, the remaining trim will be needed later. Then the structure is again turned over and this place is welded.
Step Three Ski installation
To attach the skis to the triangle, you need to make holes for the bolts at the base of each ski. For this, the author used a drill, carefully recessing the head of the bolt into the base of the plate. To make a reliable connection, 60 mm thick bolts are tightened with a nut on the top of the plate. After that, the entire structure must be placed on the bicycle. To do this, in the hub you need to make a centimeter hole with a thread.The size may vary, so it should be secured with a washer and nut on each side. Bolts need to be tightened as much as the mobility of the ski will be necessary when riding. The rear ski mount is slightly different, but the processes are similar. If you want the threads of the washer and the nut to match, just adjust them, they can turn slightly, then you can tighten them harder.
The fourth step. Footrest mount
To install this part of the bike, the author uses the remaining trimmings joined together. The author has a strip length of 30 cm, but each may have its own size convenient for him. To do this, you need a bolt with a thickness of 1.5 cm and a nut that fasten thanks to the hole in the footboard.
Step Five Installation of the wooden part
If it is not possible to weld metal, this structure can be assembled using wooden parts. To do this, you need bars with a length of 10-15 cm, in the middle of the block you need to make a hole 1 cm thick. The axis will pass here. The bars must be added until the desired size is obtained. The author needed 2 blocks on the front side, and one block on the back. After that you can attach the skis. To do this, you need several self-tapping screws with small threads that are screwed into the base of the ski. Now the bike is ready for use. You can also use a washer and nut to adjust the backrest.
Conclusion
Regardless of whether metal or wood was used in the manufacture of the ski bike, it is immediately ready for use. On it you can overcome up to 50 km per hour. To reduce its weight, you can use shorter wooden blocks, or shorten the base to 15 cm. You can also reduce the front of the triangle and replace it with a wooden one.
