Forest wool from pine needles

Forest wool from pine needles
Dear website visitors. From the material presented, you will learn how to make high-grade wool and yarn from ordinary pine needles (needles). At first glance it may seem fiction, but everything is far from it! With proper processing and adherence to technology, wool is obtained, from which you can then spin yarn and knit woolen products: socks, scarves, sweaters, etc.

Actively this technology was used in Soviet times, when the war was on, there was a very shortage of raw materials, therefore they used needles. They made footcloths, quilted jackets, mittens for fighters. With the development of industry and synthetic materials, they forgot about this method.

And so let's look at how wool is made from needles and what is needed for this?

Materials
1. needles (needles)
2. water

Instruments
1. water tank
2. bag (or piece of cloth)
3. beater (stick)
4. spindle

The process of making wool from pine needles
The indisputable advantage of this wool is that it is environmentally friendly. As you understand, this is the easy availability of material that can be collected all year round, despite the fact that the resource is fully restored and does not require any maintenance or investments. The only drawback is that the needles will have to be soaked for a long time in water, about 2 months, with a water change every 2 weeks.

To begin with, you will need to take some kind of container, if it so happens that you are in the forest and you do not have a container, you can simply dig a hole and fill it with water.

Then you need to prepare the necessary amount of needles (needles) in the neighborhood; try to collect the green ones, they will go with a little yellowness, but dry ones are not desirable! It is also possible to collect in places of massive felling, or from trees felled by the wind.

The harvest is laid in a tank (pit) and soaked for 2 months with a periodic change of water "every 2 weeks"
After soaking, the needles should slightly blacken.
According to the author, then you need to get the needles and put them in a bag, or a piece of cloth and start to knead, but to pound, roll. The softened fibers of the needles gradually turn into wool, so look (photo)
Periodically obtained wool must be washed from small debris. Next, the resulting material must be dried.
The dried and prepared wool is then tied to a vertical board and the yarn begins to spin. Fibers are gradually pulled from the bundle and twisted into a rope (woolen thread). The thread itself is wound on a spindle, or a stick can be used as a pencil in the photo.
The resulting thread is wound into a ball for subsequent storage and direct application.
Then, from the obtained thread, you can already knit the things you need, everything is done in the same way as from simple sheep's wool.
You can also watch a video where yarn from nettles and pine wool is spinning.

Who would have thought ... that one can make wool and yarn from ordinary needles and nettles. Perfect for those people who are allergic to animals and their hair. Environmentally friendly, which in our time is important.

Do not forget the technology of the ancestors, they can come in handy, because the benefits of civilization can not always be near.

From my nettles in my childhood, all the potato bags were made ....

They were called the "nettle" bag. It was very thick (heavy) and large in capacity (more than usual).
dontknow I don’t think that any of you will now "rush" to make "wool" from coniferous needles. It took years ...

And hemp .... - from it a very dense fabric is obtained and the most durable ropes .... Why is it otherwise needed as a culture? .....
.... We then did not know that it can be used somehow differently ....

Not every hemp is useful ... Its several types, read.
And here, an entrepreneur makes hempseed oil. A seed is brought to him. True, a bunch of permissions are needed.

By the way, the most durable ropes for Morflot are made of hemp. Recently I watched the program on TV, and so, somewhere in Mordovia, hemp is specially grown in one of the farms, processed and handed over to the factory, where these heavy-duty ropes are made.

Yes, boiling will speed up the process, chemistry, of course, will also contribute to enhancing the reaction, but it’s not going to turn out a little environmentally friendly)
Immediately the question: is it possible to use boiling, or "chemistry" (alkali / ash solution) to speed up the process?

We advise you to read:
