Do-it-yourself wristwatch
Dear site visitors, from the workshop presented by the author, you will learn how to make unique skeleton watches in the style of steampunk from an old pocket watch "Lightning" Soviet-made. Among masters, this type of watch is very well appreciated for its unpretentious and reliable mechanism, which can be repaired without observing sterility, as is the case with other mechanisms. They are great for beginners to dig into the gears))

What is a “skeleton” and it’s all quite simple - it’s a watch in which there is no dial in whole or in part, that is, springs, gears and the movement is clearly visible through the glass of the watch. But our author went much further and created an unprecedented sample of a marine skeleton watch with a flashlight, laser and backlight in the village. He borrowed the idea for the manufacture of the hull from the marine ship compass, and what actually came of it, we look further ...

And so, let's take a close look at the entire process of assembling the watch and find out what exactly the author needed?

Materials
1. brass sheet
2. copper wire
3. pocket watch "Lightning"
4. sealant
5. plexiglass
6. arrows
7. brass gear
8. plywood
9. laser
10. circuit board
11. LED
12. brass tube
13. genuine leather
14. white paint
15. printer roller
16. spring
17. epoxy resin

Instruments
1. lathe
2. drill
3. ammonia bath
4. hacksaw
5. pliers
6. vernier caliper
7. sandpaper
8. scissors for metal
9. needle
10. glass cutter
11. mini grinder
12. burner

Making a Skeleton Watch do it yourself.

It should start with the fact that the author already had little experience in creating watches of this kind, but everything was preliminarily trained on an old watch)) Then he went to the flea market and acquired the necessary spare parts and mechanisms for subsequent assembly.

It all started with home wall clock.
As you can see, the master respects the marine theme and moves in a given vector, so the master also indicated the training work before the main work.

It’s not bad for the first time, but very serious and painstaking work, which requires utmost attention, strength and patience, will go on. As mentioned above, the watch case will be a prototype of the naval marine case, here it is (photo)
Next, the master proceeds directly to work, inserts a brass billet into the lathe and begins to grind the case of the future watch.
Bores with a small incisor.
Watch mechanism.
Bores the shaft of the crown of the watch on the machine.
Trying on.
Then, a block is charged into the chuck of the lathe for the subsequent formation and retraction of the part.
The workpiece is cut from a brass sheet and installed.
It starts to pull with the roller.
The guy is made with periodic heating by the burner, so the metal becomes softer and stretches better.
Almost done.
The contour is extracted and drawn.
The author made a dial.
Fitting.
And then the most important thing, in the case of the mechanism itself, holes are drilled and then bored so that the mechanism and gears with springs are visible.

A crown is bored on a lathe.
Fit.
An external flange with 24 holes is sharpened.
Laser housing.
Buttons for flashlight, laser and backlight.
The author sharpens small details in a chuck from a screwdriver.
Plexiglass lens.
Lens and brass rings.
The housing for the lantern is being rolled out.
Then, with the help of a burner and solder, the parts are brazed into a single structure.
That's actually what happens in the end.
The resulting housing was aged in an ammonia bath and subjected to subsequent heating with polishing.
Inside, the mechanism body is soldered, soldering to the PIC.
Back cover with the stamp of the author.
Boring of composite material.
The laser is ready to install.
The backlight is attached to the body.
Inserted glass, planted on a black sealant, delicate arrows tinted with white paint.
A board was removed from the Chinese lantern.
The necessary part is cut off.
The battery and the seat ring for it are prepared.
Printed circuit board.
Made to cold.
Glued the landing ring under the battery.
Installed and secured the battery.
Everything is connected and installed.
Soldering wires.
In order for the contents to sit tightly in place, the master put foam on.
Checking the operation of the backlight.
Turn on the flashlight.
Laser pointer operation.
All watches are ready, but what kind of watch is there without a strap, then the author makes a block of plywood to cover it with wet skin, and so let's go! Several pieces of plywood are glued together with epoxy and after drying are charged into a lathe, for subsequent processing.
Bored.
The inner part is machined.
Here is such a blank in the end.
Next, the master begins to tighten the blockhead skin soaked in warm water. For reliability, the tight-fitting is fixed with an elastic band and remains in this position for a day.
After the specified time has passed, the author removed the bandage from rubber and removed the blockhead, the skin took the necessary shape. On the inside, I processed 2 layers of PVA glue, trimmed and trimmed the edges, drilled holes in the upper part.
The case is sewn to the strap using silk thread.
It looks like this from the inside.
Then he is engaged in creating a fastener.
Here's what happened.
The strap is attached to brass rivets.
The inside is also trimmed with leather.
Five brass rivets on one side and the other.
The edges of the strap are trimmed, burned and rubbed with a mixture of shoe polish and wax.
Here is the result.
According to the tradition established among the masters, he made control photographs of the finished product.

The work was carried out very difficult and painstaking, but it is worth it. because it is unique and has no analogues, which in our time is very important. The author advises you to do more creativity, develop your talent, build and success will definitely come to you!
