DIY Levitating Coil

Have you been dreaming of assembling a simple Levitron for a long time, but complex designs using hard-to-reach and expensive parts constantly make you leave this idea? The master from Spain provides the simplest design that is available to literally everyone!

For its manufacture, the following materials will be needed:
1. Copper wire with a diameter of 0.3-0.8 mm in varnish insulation. You can rewind with a mains transformer or an electromagnet.

2. A little thin copper or steel wire. It can be easily found on the same transformer or inductor. It is found in sufficient quantities on the throttle in "energy saving".

3. The "big" adhesive tape. Serves as a frame for winding a coil. Its use is optional.

4. Threads to your taste.

5. Ring magnet. The bigger and stronger the better. Magnets from old speakers are perfect.

6. A square of 14 * 14 centimeters from plywood 2-5mm. Too thick is not recommended.

7. Four planks with a length of 14 centimeters from the same plywood. Choose your own height. The main thing is that it should be slightly higher than the height of the magnet used.

Assembly begins with the installation of the walls on the plywood square. It turns out a platform on which the magnet and the coil itself will later be fixed.

After that, a magnet is glued in the center.

Then you need to form a coil. It can be wound on any cylindrical object with a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the magnet. The number of turns is uncritical, you need to wind about fifty.

After this, the ends of the wires must be cut off “at the root”, leaving about half a centimeter.

Two small pieces of thin wire are soldered to the ends of the coil previously cleaned of varnish.

Now is the time to “try on” the spool on the platform and stick four threads to it from each corner, leaving a small margin. Surplus is cut off.

At this stage, the thin wire is shortened to the length of the thread, and thicker insulated wires are soldered to their ends and glued to the base of the platform.

The design can already be considered completed and testing begins.A 12 volt lead battery is used as a power source. It is not worth giving a much higher voltage, since a sufficiently large current can occur in the circuit and thin wires will melt. The coil itself can also become very hot.

So, after applying voltage, the ring soars into the air. With a piece of thick cardboard is also very confident.

Even a foam ball obeyed the coil. Not thick, of course, but not so bad either. It will turn out to be a very interesting thing if you set the backlight on the platform and draw a map of the moon on the ball.

However, everyone decides for himself. And finally, I can recommend the author’s video for this homemade.

Good luck to everyone!

I wanted to see something with a controller (no ropes). You could just place 2 magnets as well.
