This design of the windmill allows you to generate energy from the wind, regardless of the direction from which the wind blows. The blades of a windmill are a kind of sail. All of the available materials are collected, the cost is a penny. For example, the author made the blades of plywood, and the generator is also going do it yourself from an old water pump and magnets.
Materials tools for homemade:
- water-repellent plywood 4 mm thick;
- ropes;
- measuring instrument (rulers, etc.);
- a hacksaw;
- plastic pipes;
- glue;
- polyurethane foam;
- putty;
- fine sandpaper;
- old metal water pipes;
- parts of the washing machine (as a chassis);
- level;
- old electric motor from a water pump;
- Neodymium magnets;
- diode gates and LEDs (optional).
Homemade manufacturing process:
Step one. Making the blades of a windmill
For the manufacture of blades, the author decided to use waterproof plywood. Sheets 30 x 120 cm in size 4 mm thick were required. Sheets must be soaked in water for a while, for example, at night, then blanks can be formed. To create the form, the author used wood and rope. The photo shows how they are fixed on a tree trunk and in this state plywood should be at least one day old. Then you need to saw off the sheets from the triangles as shown in the photo.
Step Two Blade assembly
To assemble such lightweight blades, you will need flexible plastic pipes, mounting foam, putty and glue. The blades with the help of mounting foam and pipe need to be shaped as shown in the photo. To do this, bend and drill holes in order to fill the cavity of the blades with foam. And in order to make the surface smooth, the author used putty. As soon as the surface is completely dry, it is necessary to treat it with fine sandpaper.
Step Three "Skeleton" of a windmill
For the basis of the windmill, steel water pipes and couplings were used for connection. To assemble everything smoothly, you need to use the building level. Protect the foundation of the future windmill from the adverse effects of the environment by painting. To do this, choose a paint for working with metal. To make the coating resistant, use a primer and apply the paint in several layers.
Step Four Making a generator
The generator was decided to make homemade.For these purposes, we needed an old electric motor from a water pump, as well as neodymium magnets. In this case, it is necessary to modify the rotor: install the neodymium magnets mentioned above on it. For these purposes, it is easiest to use a suitable glue. Such a generator can also be assembled from scratch, but it is much simpler and faster to use a second-hand electric motor - the one used by the author or any other suitable one.
The main task in such generators is to position the coils as close to the permanent magnets as possible, since this will allow to obtain the greatest amount of energy. To increase efficiency, the circuit can be supplemented with diode gates. Thanks to the diode bridges, the polarity on the coils is corrected and the efficiency of the generator increases. In addition, an LED can be connected to each coil, this will make it possible to observe whether the generator coils are working. When the magnet passes near the coil, the LED will flash. This will facilitate the routine inspection of the wind generator and you do not have to dismantle it again.
