In our modern world, there are quite a lot of cars and they are still a means of transportation rather than luxury, but the rich are still car put in the category of luxury, making leather solons, and exclusive design. But is all this necessary?
The author believes that it is necessary, proving this with his own example, namely, he made a unique aluminum knob with a wooden insert made of bog oak. Initially, he made an earthen mold for pouring molten aluminum. For this, I made a sketch on a tablet from a real gearshift knob, poured sand and earth into a plastic container and placed a sawn piece of wood in the ground, thus forming a cavity in the shape of a knob. He melted and poured aluminum, allowed to cool and removed, then polished it, chamfered, drilled holes, made an insert from bog oak. I printed out the Celtic pattern and pasted it on the handle, made grooves along the contour with a bur machine.
And so, let's carefully consider what the author needed to make the knob of the gearshift lever of the car.
Materials
1. aluminum scrap (the author used 2 pistons from the Ural motorcycle)
2. a tree for a matrix (any breed)
3. earth with sand for earthen form
4. plastic canister
5. Printed Celtic Pattern
6. wood for insertion (stained oak)
7. primer for metal
Instruments
1. earth form
2. gas burner
3. crucible
4. tack
5. jigsaw
6. drill
7. file
8. sandpaper
9. emery
10. vernier caliper
11. boron machine
12. die
13. tap
14. pencil
15. plastic knob (as a sample)
Step-by-step instructions for creating a unique car gearshift knob do it yourself.
First of all, the author took the original plastic knob from the car’s checkpoint and made a wooden block on it, namely, put a plastic handle on a piece of a simple board and drew a pencil around its outline, then sawed it off using an electric saw.Actually in the end we got such a wooden blockhead, it is needed for the formation of a cavity in earthen form. After which the author scored land with sand right next to the garage and filled the container with a cut-off plastic canister with this mixture.Attention is an important point! Land with sand should be dry and in no case not wet, otherwise the fill will fail. Only dry sand and earth !!! Next, the blockhead is placed in an earthen form, is pressed and as a result, a cavity is obtained in the form of a knob of a gearshift lever. That's actually what happens. After the earthen mold for casting aluminum is completely ready, the author proceeds to the metallurgical part of the operation, namely, he melts aluminum scrap in the form of pistons from the Ural motorcycle, 2 pieces were taken. The molten metal is poured into the prepared earthen form. As soon as it is poured, the form is slightly tapped on the wall of the plastic canister, so that vibration forms and aluminum evenly fills all the cavities, releasing air bubbles. After the mold has been filled in, it is necessary to wait a bit for the aluminum to seize and freeze, but it is better to cool it without the mold, because it will cool for a very long time in the sand. You can get the workpiece with pliers or tongs. In no case do not touch with your bare hands until you are sure that the metal has completely cooled !!!Then the resulting workpiece must be sanded with an emery, file, sandpaper. The chamfer is also removed. The author printed a drawing of the Celtic pattern on paper, cut it out and pasted it on the handle, then with the help of a boron machine, he chose a drawing in metal according to the existing contour. In the end part, the master drilled a hole and cut the thread in order to subsequently screw it onto the gearshift lever.A small groove is grooved in the lower part, it is necessary for putting on the locking rubber of the leather cover of the lever of the car box. Also, the author made a beautiful wooden insert from stained oak, drilled through holes, bored with a file, outlined the contour on a wooden workpiece, cut it out, put it in polished. Here is such a wonderful handle on the gear lever turned out by our author. The master also provided a very detailed video, where he reveals the secrets and subtleties of working with metal and wood.
We hope you liked the material) As you can see, everything is quite simple and can be done by a handy and skilled person) Step-by-step instructions are presented to you, so we take and do it. Go for it friends!
