Bottle Cutter for Glass Bottles

It took something to cut off a couple of bottoms from the bottle. Cut simply with a glass cutter, and even exactly just not realistic. I decided to assemble a design for even sections.

The design is assembled in a short period of time and of course do it yourself.

For the construction we need:
- glass cutter;
- wooden blocks;
- a basis from a chipboard;
- self-tapping screws;
- M6 bolts;
- 6 mm washers;
- 6 mm nuts.

Bottle Cutter for Glass Bottles

First, try on our bars for attaching a glass cutter.

Mark the basis for all the bars. We drill holes.
In the role of the basis, I have rounds left over from some homemade or something else. I don’t remember it myself. You can cut any design, it does not really matter. The main thing is that our bottle, with its greater happiness, is placed on our billet.

We drill a hole for a glass cutter exactly in the middle of the bars. It turned out such a collar. The hole should be smaller in diameter than the glass cutter handle. Otherwise, the glass cutter will hang and cut the bottle will not work.

Press the glass cutter and fasten to the base with long screws. At first I thought to fasten it to the studs, but did not find it and screwed it onto the screws.
I installed another bar under the bottom, with it it is more convenient to cut the bottle.

Press the locking bar securely. I made another hole to adjust the cut line.

All screws and screws set flush. You can not do this, but then you need stable legs.

The bottle that we will cut must first be washed and dried.
You need to cut the bottle with gloves, since the glass chips fly off. After scrolling several circles, we proceed to the procedure for separating the bottom. It is also possible to make glass rings.

We put the bottle in a tall bowl and pour boiling water above the cut. We are waiting for some time. During this time we prepare a vessel with cold water. We take our bottle out of hot water and dip it in cold water. A crack is heard and the bottle bursts along the cut line.

Next, take a rag and turn the bottom and neck in different directions. The bottom separates easily. The cut line was very smooth.It is possible to process the edges of the cut with an emery stone, thereby we exclude the possibility of a cut on the cut part.

At first, it’s not the first time to separate the parts of the bottle. It happened to me from the third or even the fourth, but then everything turns out much more often.

Here we have got such a design. On it you can cut a small jar, but I needed only the bottoms of dark glass. The necks can be used as shades for fixtures or something else.

A more detailed production of this device can be seen in the video.

By the way ... I once cut the bottom of a wide one and a half liter bottle (It seems from some sangria). It was concave inward. Strong and with a sharp "nose" in the middle. In the center of this “nose” I drilled a hole, inserted a beautiful galvanized nail, put the rest of the bottle upside down on it, and filled the neck with epoxy. It turned out such a huge glass ... He stood dusting in the basement ... Then he crashed ....
Sorry for the quality. In "paint" I quickly drew for the idea to be what I was talking about:
OK, thanks. I also have views of some parts of the bottles, namely the bottoms. In some bottles, they are strongly concave inward, already cut out and turned a couple, for embedding in a glass stained-glass window. Ready-made decorative element. Thought maybe there are even more original uses :)

Great colleague, why do you need bottoms?

Not at all bad, I'll tell you!
And my daughter asked me to cut glasses from simple round vodka bottles on last New Year’s ...
It turned out - glasses are not for drinking ...)))))
