The process of making trike:
Step one. We go in search of components
First of all, you need to find all the necessary details. Typically, such things can be found at metal depots. You are unlikely to find an engine there, but old seats, a corner, square pipes, old wheels, etc. without any problems. You can get a pretty good corner from the old metal beds.
Step Two We prepare the engine
You won’t go anywhere without an engine, so it’s worth starting the assembly of your homemade product from it. Check the condition of the piston, and the overall engine performance. If something is wrong, repair. The author chose an engine power of 2.2 hp. with centrifugal clutch. Thanks to this, you do not have to make a separate clutch, it will turn on itself, depending on the engine speed. Similar engines can be found in chainsaws, mowers and other equipment, however, they are weaker in power.
The next step will be the choice of how to connect the engine to the wheels. The author chose a chain drive for such purposes. He welded a small sprocket to the clutch, and a large one to the rear axle. As a result, the speed decreased, and the thrust of the map increased.
That concerns the differential, then, in principle, in light technology, it can not be installed. Also, gearboxes are not used in simple designs.
Among other things, the author had to redo the exhaust pipe, as it was sent directly to him in the back. The pipe was deployed and a silencer from the pit was installed on it.
Step Three Assemble the frame
The author served as the front part for karting bike. Just cut off the excess, we will need the front part with the front wheel and fork. Now you do not need to make a steering wheel.
As the basis for the frame, you can use a steel square or round pipe. We weld the front of the bicycle to it, as well as the steps, the author made them from sheet metal, this is also protection.
You also need to fix the seat, you can use a ready-made car seat as it, only it is advisable that it does not get wet. Weld the support from the corner, and then screw the chair to it.
At the rear, fasten the frame so that two bearings are mono to it. Further, with the help of these bearings, the rear axle is mounted. Well, you need to somehow fasten the wheels to the axis. It is advisable to find wheels with hubs.
Step Four We connect controls
First of all, you need a gas pedal so that you can control the engine speed. Ropes can be found in old bicycles or mopeds. There are also two pedals to do, a gas and a brake.
As for the brake system, there are two ways out of this situation. You can brake the front wheel by installing a hand brake on it. As for the rear ones, usually in such homemade products they simply make a lever, which, when you press the pedal, rubs the rear wheel.
Decide where to fix the gas tank. It should not be low, since in such engines there is no gas pump. Also, the gas tank must not be placed near the exhaust pipe.
From electricians on the steering wheel or in another convenient place, you will need to fix the ignition button so that the engine can be quickly turned off if necessary. If the engine is started by an electric starter, then another button will be needed, it also remains to be decided where to install the battery.
If necessary, you can equip your homemade headlight, rear feet or even a generator.
